what do i need for the swap? i assume i will need a BOP th350?? what's a good converter for a mid 10 second setup? i have a cpt66BB that calls for a 3200-3400 stall.

are you guys happy with your th350s? also, i thought i remembered reading the the 1 2 and 3 gears are almost identical ratios to the 2004r. is that true?

can a th350 hold up to mid 10s without a manual valve body? i don't want to have to shift constantly. any info is greatly appreciated. thank you!

Yep,
BOP TH350.
It will hold up to 10's with an auto VB fine if the builder knows what's up.

Stock driveshaft should work, you'll have to change the crossmember or mod it.

Gear ratios are a bit different but will work fine, especially in a drag car.
You can get low gear sets for the 350 to be basically the same as a 200.

I personally think going backwards(technology wise) is not in your best interest, especially with todays(2009 knowledge). As much as I relish yesterday's folklore, when it comes to reliabilty, the 200-R4 does a much better job without the sacrifice of losing (OD), but that is up to the final user to conclude. I wouldn't expect or trust too much in the way of information reguading good or bad merits of "Any" modification that came from people that never lived on both sides of the street. Todays knowledge of the 200-R4 allows us to run and drive with confidence that putting down a(honest) 500 ft lbs using stock hardware, and with what Bruce, Chris, Lonnie and others have contributed in "Serious" hardware upgrades, "NutsVille" is most likely next stop for the train. The 200-R4 has "earned" my respect long ago as the best trans that "never was", only because of it's natural "failings", which has to be everybody's understanding of the TV cable and it's adjusments. Get them wrong and you will without a doubt incurr failures. Follow the instructions from those that have spent countless hours/days/months and yes "Years" working to make a "cows ear" one of the best mechanical devices available known for it's task, "OR" you can go backwards and not help anybody with your findings, most of us have already been introduced to the "TH350" and it's shortcomings(who do you think found them?) If you want "Easy", look up non-automotive activities, All I can tell you is I commend my fellow Buick "Idiots" for wasting their time, makes us "fuzzy inside" knowing you care.

I have a built th350 in my 99SS and it runs 10.70's on motor. That being said I love all od Transmissions. I have built alot of 4l60&65e's with great sucess ans have always heard that the 200r4 is stronger than these. For a street car that I was going to drive alot an Od trans with a lock up conveter is the only way to go. You cant beat it for a fast street driven car.

TCI also makes an adapter plate to bolt a chevy case to the Buick engine if you don't locate a BOP case. You also need a crossmember from a 84-85 G-body. It's easy to spot because it runs at an angle under the trans tunnel rather than straight across like the turbo cars. The Trans will bolt right in and use your stock driveshaft.

So far we have been 5.8's at 121 in the 1/8 with a T-350 with only an upgraded input shaft and sprag. A stock rebuild will go mid 10's with ease.

I'll help you with a converter for the T-350 if you want. Just shoot me a PM with your combo.

I couldn't agree more. Pound for pound it is the best package I have encountered for our GN's and older musclecars!

I still encounter knuckleheads (usually beer toting, tatooed, Nascar hat wearing, hunched over Chevy sheep) that trash it for anything performance, arguing that it is just a POS Chevette trans!
