why am i getting boost?

i just finished gettting the car all together about 2 weeks ago. since everything is fresh, and the turbo is new, i decided to not run any boost until i get a few miles on the car. i left all of the vaccume lines off that run from the compresor housing to the wastegate. the wastegate rod is sitting over the wastegate flapper, but i dont have the clip on. when i took it around the block today, i decided to go ahead and go ~1/2-3/4 throttle. i built about 5 lbs of boost. why did this happen? should i go ahead and unhook the wastegate rod? thanks.

Yep. Having it connected will allow the car to make boost. The flapper needs to open in order to bleed the boost off.

And now you know that the lines from the compressor open the wastegate...
