The line was changed to front wheel drive. AND, whenever GM gets something right they will stop making it shortly thereafter.

Yep, same could also be said for the 94-96 Impala SS B-body platform with the LT1 motor.

Because they moved it to FWD. And I would guess because it was outperforming GM's corvette and other vehicles.

The end of the TR was because of several reasons. But sales weren't very good until they announced they were gonna end production and then they sold a crap load, thus why late 87 cars just got slapped together real quick. Other reasons include emissions standards got tighter in 88, the FWD platform was created and couldn't handle the power of the LC2, and also because GM didn't want a "Buick" being the flagship car of their company and wanted the Corvette to be on its own.

I once saw a comedian doing a GN test drive on a TV show say Buick stopped building TR's to focus on golf

as already pointed out, they stopped making the turbo regals because the rwd G body platform was getting phased out after the 87 and 88 model years. this was something that was actually supposed to happen in the early 80's- like after the '81 model year or so- but they kept making the rwd G bodies after that due to decent sales (i think the rwd Cutlass was the best selling car in the USA for most of that time), NASCAR rules that required the cars to be based on rwd cars (in a time when "win on sunday, sell on monday" actually meant something), and the US consumer base not really being too sure about fwd cars yet.
they had to get rid of the rwd G bodies sometime to get rid of competing cars in the market place. fwd was seen as the future of cars- more efficient drivelines and more interior room in a platform that was cheaper to manufacture and weighed less- so the rwd cars started to get phased out. there was even a time when the Camaro was scheduled to be replaced by a fwd chassis like Ford tried to do with the Probe to replace the Mustang.
the 80's was a weird time for the American auto industry.

No g/n for you!

They stopped making them so shop owners could kill us with their prices:biggrin:

I would say SALES ... most of these TURBO 6 vehicles are pretty limited in production vs. most cars ---

Chuck Norris bought the last GN and simply said "you will stop here".

Just like he did when he walked into ASC after buying 547.

I think they stopped production because they were slappin the chit out of the vette's. :) and you know how those vette owners are...................

One of many factors was the excess government taxes laid on GM for dirty plant "Emissions", I believe Buick sold more turbo Regals than non-turbo in '87, but as to why the Monte Carlo and Cutlass continued for '88 is not something I ever understand.

Kevin.
