Agree with Scot.

If someone wants to sell a part without posting a picture they are crazy. EVERYONE likes to be able to see what they are buying before they buy it.

I think the biggest problem on the board are the guys trying to make their own market by asking 4 times a parts normal selling price. Then the next guy searches to see what his part usually goes for and sees this said part, normally sells for $75, being sold for $250. SO he asks $175 for his. Then the price of parts gradually gets higher and higher and newer members buy them. The older members know what these parts are really worth and wont spend the $175.....$200......$250. They want it for $75. I agree.

Too many people on this board are here to make money, flip parts, etc. They really dont care about helping the next guy. When I first joined the board, people asked a fare price and the parts sold quick. Now people try to gouge others and wait until somebody bites.

When I sell parts, I try to sell them cheap so they get off of my shelf. i buy enough parts that i hope someone helps me out in the future as well. It really only happens once in a blue moon but there are good members on here still.

I ship the same night or the next day after someone sends money. Who wants to wait 3-4 weeks to get something they havee already paid for? Nobody. It's common courtesy to ship fast to the buyer.

You do sell at a decent price! I Thank you for my filler.
The Trader ratings really help. That seems to be a good feature.

Comon sense goes a long way with me.

If I do not know you as a regular on the board, or know someone that does know you (meaning a seller) then I will either do my homework or just pass on the sale.

I agree, there are a couple guys on here that need to start paying vendor fees. Sometimes I wonder if they even own a Buick anymore.
Yes, if you search their name for posts they only post in the for sale section. They are parasites on Shane.

I agree the 2 largest issues are the economy and lack of good pictures. After that the PM vs. posting in the thread is a problem. I've tried to buy things but didn't get the item because it was sold via one or the ways before I knew it.

I think the economy has a lot to do with it, for a few reasons. People don't have the extra cash to spend. Then when they do have the cash to spend, the security of buying new from a reputable vendor goes along way.

The trader ratings are ok on here, but only go so far. I've bought a few things here and the sellers never gave me feedback. I sent my MOs out right away and when I said I would, so It should have been good feedback. So to look at my rating I could make someone sketchy. Another time, the guy had + feedback. It took a month to get my part. He lied about when and how he shipped my part. When I got my part, the shipping date was on the box, took 2 days to get it, from when he finally shipped it.

NOTE: The ONE thing I don't agree with when selling parts is the fact that some will let you know via PM and some let you know by posting in the thread! This gets confusing fast and by god you better do the right thing or you will be thrown under the bus quickly.. There shouldn't be PM's on purchasing parts!! this would keep Everyone on an even playing field..

Scot, I am sorry, but I disagree with you 100% on that matter. The primary purpose for "PM"s is to enable someone to say something to another person which doesn't concern anyone else except the one to whom the "PM" is sent. It's called "privacy". Also, if a person "PM"s another person to offer a better price than the higher bidder in the "public" posts, that's called "business", like it or not, simple as that!...
Maybe it's me, but when I have something to sell, I like to be able to get the most money as possible for it... Seems logical...

But there are alot of picture collectors.
Really?...why??... Are there guys actually collecting pictures of parts ?? Why?...I just don't get it...

Thats COMMON, Ty:rolleyes::p

Its hard to sell parts when you have less than 20 posts. And then there was a guy trying to sell a ECU for $300 .

For the most part, if you price your parts at a reasonable price it should sell quickly.

I usually have very good luck selling stuff here. The part has got to be in demand first of all. Secondly it has to be priced right. Too many here think that there 4 year old part that they originally bought for 500 bucks is still worth 450. Also, as much as its a pita, pics sell.

Claude I happen to disagree with you 100% as well, First of all this site isn't an "Auction to the highest bidder" and I’m sure there is a lot of people that wouldn't like one treating it like one but to each their own.

BTW I DO know what the purpose of a PM is and you’re correct TO A POINT. I personally HATE when someone publically posts up and around the same time someone PM's me wanting the same part and me not knowing about it I sell the part to the person who posted publically then the guy who PM'ed me gets pissed and gets sh*tty with me over it. To Me it don't make much sense when buyers of parts have something PRIVATE to say...

Do those (Private) types of people go into a store and ask to do business in the bathroom or dressing room so it's Private?? LOL My Gawd "IT'S A FOR SALE SECTION" for god’s sake NOT A VANERIAL DISEASE CENTER.... < Now that's Private! LOLOL

My $.02. People think they have gold when they have a pile of chit. Prices on the used stuff is at least as high as it was 2 or more years ago and there seems to be more of it around with all the rusty POS being parted out. NOS items are always good at bringing high $ and rust free doors are very expensive in the north. You cant find a decent door for under $400. The you need to put a lot of time and more $ into it prepping, painting ,ad replacing seals. Plan on about $1200+/side to have perfect doors if you pay someone to do it. Ive only seen and bought one door that i could say is probably the best of the best out there. I hav enot seen one like it since. Bweavy hooked me up on that one. Bottom line is that people want to buy a $5k car and fix it for $500. The problem is they realize it will take at least $7k to fix it and wind up parting the junker adding to the already excessive used crap out there and buying something decent for $10-15K. If its not priced to sell it wont.

Scot, I know that this site isn't an auction...BUT...but isn't it normal that when you post something in the "parts for sale" section, that you're hoping to get as much money as possible for it?... To me, the more money I get when selling something, the more I have to spend on my GN later on...I find this perfectly normal, it's "business" and there's nothing wrong with that.

As for "PM"s, they're also ok. When I decide to send a private message to a seller about something I'm interested in, the rest of the members don't need to know about it. It's simply NOT of their concern, period! They're called "private messages" especially for that reason, NOT because they have something to hide. I don't see anything wrong with that. It's just "part of the game" and some privacy has never hurt anyone... In contrary to you, if someone sends me a message about a part I have for sale, I'm rather pleased to see the interest he's showing in it and if his offer is highest, well he's the one I'm going to sell it to. Scot, you're in business and you sell really nice GN stuff, but you know, it's money that rules the world these days, like it or not...

Have a good evening,

Claude. :)

Why is it so hard to sell buick items on TB classifieds?

1. Why would I want to risk purchasing parts from "Joe Blow off the street" when I can't rely/depend on an established "vendor" here on turbobuick.com?

To answer you honestly NO! I don't Hope to get the most money possible for it because I simply post a price that it's for sale for and that is normally what I will accept.. ;) And to be fair to everyone else on the board if someone offered me more well, Too bad it was already sold to the first person who came through with the money. ;)

I'm still kind of confused on your posts, Do you anounce in your threads that you will be accepting the highest offer? Do you let the person/persons know that contact you that if someone else offers more that you will go with them instead? What happens if someone like me sends you a PM for your asking price and then someone else does the same right after me offering you more? (Do you go with the other higher offer and the heck with me even though I was first to offer you what your asking?) ??

This is a free web site but if you don't know what a part is worth do some homework, ie: is the part still made by GM, or aftermarket, how rare is the part, condition of part, demand for part all these are factors of pricing. I hate PM's and waiting for someone to offer you more is wrong to me, but some people have different morals when it comes to business. After the last parts I sold I won't except PM's it was a mess, because my computer had problems updating, which was a network problem at work. Like Jermey said you hope some one will treat you fair down the road. Carma's a Bitch that follows you around.
