modern firearms go off when the trigger is pulled.the cardinal rules of firearms safety are:

1:treat all firearms as if they are loaded.
2: only point a firearm at something you want to kill.
3:keep your finger off the trigger until you are ready to shoot.

i won't entertain any excuses from anyone on this one.she was 100% in the wrong and would be standing in the unemployment line if she worked for me.<

our issue was a sig sauer226- the gun fired the first round double action and the rest single action- you could fire the first round single action by cocking the hammer

i would have to disagree about keeping your finger outside the trigger guard when you are covering a suspect- the reason you cover a suspect is to shoot them if they suddenly become a deadly force threat- in that case the time it takes to move your finger from outside the guard to the trigger could cost you dearly

i ran a swat team for the last 15 years before i retired two years ago(we had 36 men - three full time shifts- i was in charge of and led one of these teams on all operatioins) during the time i spent on this unit we had several accidental discharges - our rule was that if an officer had a second ad he was automatically dismissed from the unit- this did not get them discharged from regular duties even though i stongly believe that any officer who has two ads should be dismissed from the job period

I totally agree. I watched that video in awe at the end of last week. A friend sent it to me, and I was amazed. I still carry my old Sig Sauer P226 for the reason SR71 outlined. The first shot is double action which cuts down on accidental discharges like this one.

Have any of you guys seen the police video of that woman officer getting the crap beaten out of her by some big dude that just got out of the pen? He almost beat her to death while his kids watched from inside his car. The whole time he was on top of her, he was saying "you ain't taking me to jail today". Once she was unconcious, he got up very calmly and drove away. She wisely quit police work after her recovery.

I could tell you some female firefighter stories too but........I'll save those for another time!

All glocks are single action!!!!!!!!!!!!! ,and she should of ben on the ground helping the other officer hand cuff that perp!!!!!!!

No, Glocks are double action. Single action means you cock the hammer yourself. Double action means when you pull the trigger the weapon automatically cocks itself. Usually a DA trigger pull is 12 pounds or so and a single action is just a few pounds. Glocks are hammerless and have a consistent trigger pull, I think it's 4.5 or 6.

And NO she should not have been on the ground. The dude on the ground was a skinny guy while the cop had him in good control and was larger. Now we all know that sometimes a wiry little fokker can require two or three people to get 'em buckled up, but in this situation the cuffing officer appeared to have control.

Glock's have no hammer, just a fireing pin ,single action once loaded, department issue, now a barretta 92fs is dubble action, first shot then single action with the hammer cocked, what should the female officer been doing then? if the perp got loose and started running away? (shot him)

Damn near blew his mullet clean off! ;)

Seriously, that was scary. Keep the finger off the trigger unless you are ready to shoot.

Huh?

She should have put her damn gun away and if the guy started getting up or resisting she shoulda gone and beat the tar out of him until he complied. Pretty simple.

The woman cop attemting to beat a male criminal into submission would be a funny video also!:D

Don't underestimate the womenfolk, dude. Some of the cop chicks are bad muthafokkers. Male cops actually underestimate women and get tuned up for it. 100 pound crack head chicks can usually scrap really well.

For years Texas would not hire female State Troopers, but have started recently. The ones I have seen, I would definitley not mess with. These are some BIG women, with an attitude. They don't take any crap either.

We have a couple of female cops at our department. One can't weigh 100 pounds, but I have seen her TALK some big mean drunks to jail, where a male officer would have had to fight him. Weird stuff.

I know of some female officers that would lay the smack down on more than a few unsuspecting guys.

Without the proper training, that incident could have happened to anybody. Male or female, IMO.

One of the hardest job's,hands down, you never now what to expect ,you must allways be prepared and at the top of your game. some of the best have made mistakes just hope they dont cost you or your parner their lives,be safe out their:)

Action of a Handgun

And from another site:
Glock pistols have what the vendor calls a "Safe Action." The pistol is operated as if it is DAO. There is no hammer, external or internal. Instead, there is a firing-pin tang held by the triggering mechanism. The ready pistol is in a half-cocked state. Squeezing the trigger completes the cocking, then releases the tang. It's trigger pull is consistent, like DAO pistols, but the Glock's standard trigger has a much lighter pull, similar to SA pistols.

HTH

I already changed it to something better, but the description was the same for SA vs DA.

I don't know a handgun from a hedgehog, so I looked it up. With how everyone was debating SA and DA, maybe some other people needed some help to. :)

and one more thing:
Whatever you decide, remember that a DA system should not be selected to "safely" hold someone at gunpoint with your finger on the trigger. An accidental discharge is possible, and under stress, it may even be likely. Only place your finger inside the trigger guard once the decision to fire has been made.
