wiered problem

I have an 84 gn and have a little bit of a wierd problem. When i bought the car the volt light stayed on, and still does. I think it might be the alternator? The other thing is my windows roll down really slow and my astro roof does not work all the time. Anyone have a similar problem or know what might cause this. Thanks in advance Harry

Well, if your volt light is on, it is possible the altenators failing, but it can also be the wiring. I had my car do this once and the altenator was fine. Check the wiring harness that connects on top of the altenator. It consists of 2 wires in a little plastic harness that connects on the top. Check to make sure that the wire is securly connected to the battery post at the back of the altenator. This harness and wiring tend to corrode due to the excess heat from the uppipe. If thats alright, recheck all connections, and belt and if needbe, test the altenator to make sure its generating enough volts to keep the battery fully charged.
As for the Astroroof could you give a little more information on the problem? Does it not work at all mor is it intermitent? The window as well.. How slow are we talking about? The windows on these cars are known for slow up and down travel. Get back and we'll try to help

thanks for the reply i will check those things the windows go up and down slow but there is no noise or anything else so it might be normal. As for the Astro roof sometimes it opens and sometimes it doesnt. One day i hit the open button and it works great the next nothing no motor noise or anything else it just doesnt work.
