I was tuning on an 87 GN this weekend for a guy. I could not get the IAC calibrated and must have gone over the calibration procedure five times. The car would not idle. I remove the IAC to find that the plunger was not threaded on the shaft. It had come off of the IAC shaft. I had never seen this before. It looked OK, so I cleaned it with carburetor cleaner and placed a small amount of thread locker on the shaft and screwed it back on. I calibrated the IAC, set the TPS and every thing was good to go.
