Good Article.. I actually read it all

Unions better wake up and realize if they don't renegotiate for the greater good then they won't have a choice before long...

GM does a have a extraordiinary large amount of cash laying around. I'm surprised about that. It does give it some flexability to try some new things, but time is running out.

Say

it aint so JOE,,,Pontiac wont be far behind:eek:

This is a typical case of over paid CEOs. Their millon dollar bonuses at the expense of the GM worker is the cause of this. CEOs cash in their stock options and head for the hills.

Peaches, that is denial. The amount of monies paid to execs may be high in your view and to a point I agree. The unbelievable benefit and retirement funds that these execs agreed to with the unions are by far the major source of problem. Economist, both pro and anti union agree, that those benefits are the cause of all 3 big manufacturers are hurting. You can't just blame the execs. It is greed of the unions as well. They design cars that lack luster, quality, and value and then they are assembled poorly and it is no wonder Toyota is kicking butt.

Toyota builds some of the most bland cars in the world, and they sell like crazy. Honda is mundane yet their quality carries them, and Nissan is along for the ride.

Yes, I guess i am in denial, owning 3 GM cars and now an import. I am slowly losing faith in the american auto manufacturer and moving over to the import side. It means alot to me when a manufacture will warrant a car for 100,000 miles or 10 years is something to consider and well as fuel economy. It sends a strong message.:)

Do not hold your breath

Do not hold your breath on "those 100K miles 10yr warranties"
I would be greatly surprised if these companies even exist in 10rys. I am in the finance and auto sales business and let me tell you most of these cars are "CRAP." I said most not all. There is NO WAY they can handle the volume of claims on these cars when the hit the 75K+ mile category. I am a member of the NIADA, CIADA, and NCRLA and trust me this is a very heated arguement. Most, including myself, believe this is a sale as many cars as quick as you can sceams. Do you remember DAEWOO try to go buy parts for one of them now, enough said IMO.

ummmmm,I can still order any Daewoo parts .
But I don't disagree with you on the warranty problems

you can order daewoo parts- but they are really now GM parts since GM owns them :) its not like they are gonna just throw their parts away- gm sells them and makes a profit

I wouldn't worry about the warranty issue on any of these cars actually. People will put 100k on them in no time flat. Pretty much anything built now days will go that far without to many concerns at all if maintained. If they aren't maintained, the warranty is void.
Most of these companies are heavily owned by American auto makers as it is. Instead of 0% financing, the big three need to step up on warranty and build quality from the top down to insure they don't take it in the shorts on comebacks.
Back to the real point though, the retiree benefits are stangling the bottom line on US cars. That fact can't be spun no matter how hard you try.
