Tired of looking for my idea of cool 17" wheels/tires without sending Coddington's grandchildren through prep school, so...will try to find GNX or preferrably TTA wheels.
It appears that Nitto's 555RII are best all-around DR, but only size they list in 16" is 245/50R16; a little skinny (9.8"), but seems should fit well.
Would like to know experiences on well they fit wheel, and any
wheel well/frame/etc. clearance problems.
Thanxxx.

The GNX front tires were 245/50-16, and the rears were 255. So they should fit, given the right wheels and/or spacers.

Who sells RIIs in 16"? I'd love to have those but have only ever seen 17 & 18". They are not even on nittotire.com.

TIA,
Tom

Oops! meant 555R, for more interest in a good/streetable drag radial. I agree that the 555RII is a cool tire, wish they made 19" for my Beemer M3.
Have a friend who had the 555R's on his '89 TA & loved them, believe ran 12.0's, air-em-up & drive home.
Wish Nitto made more sizes in 16" & 17", 245/50 seems a little "wussy" for a drag tire, but I guess has far less clearance issues.

There just isn't much for 16" out there, and 255 is about the max in a 50.

I've got the new MT DRs on the Buick, but they've only been used to keep the drums off of the "skates" so far.

I need something for the TTA. I wonder how long Yoko A032's would last.

Good Luck,
Tom

Drag Radials

I've got BFG Drag Radials(255/50-16) on my GTA rims, without any kind of spacers. I've got about 3/8" between the sidewall and the inner fender back there. No signs of any rubbing.

Ya, lots of options with 15".
Few yrs ago I switched from MT's to Hoosier, but the 'new' MT is very attractive...how do you like the traction compared to other makes? What size you use? If you use them for/also the street how is the ride, too squirrley?
Doubt if they would last long on street & over on this Left Coast the friendly guys in blue like to pull you over & admire such things.

Get the BFG 255 50 16 DR.. I had both Nitto's and the BFG and the last time I run the GN I netted a 1.59 60' with one air bag and 18# in the BFG's. I have no suspension mods to the rear either. I have 1/4"-3/8" of an inch clearence between the inner fender and never seen any signs of rubbing. Now granted Nittos last longer but in my opinion only BFG just plain hook better.

BFG Drag Radials(255/50-16) on my GTA rims

Hay Rodman,
I thought there was a problem with the factory backspacing on GTA wheels when on a GN, & that's why using the Front GTA wheels work best (& have to use a spacer when put rear GTA wheel on front of a GN)?
I would like to use a streetable drag radial on GTA's, pickings are kinda slim. "Really" prefer 17" rims but finding ones I like that don't cost $300 (ea) or more is tough & sticky tires is worse...
so think I'll go with 16" GTA's.
Anyway, am I correct in first paragraph above? Thanks.

fronts

YUP- That's what I've got(see sig). I've heard that a set(F & R) will work with the rears on the front of your car(spaced- did you say you had a Turbo Regal?), and the fronts on the rear(which I know works). Expect to pay about $325 per wheel, if they're refinished, for the fronts. Rears are cheaper. I just bought an extra pair of fronts, so I don't have to wear out the DRs driving around.

eBay

Oh yeah- There are always GTA rims on the Bay. Ask alot of questions though, and try to get closeups of the lug bevels, and inner/outer lips. Too many people tear up the lug bevels by over-tightening. And of course: there's always the curbing issue.
