Will the shift linkage from any G body fit??

I bought this GN a couple of mounths ago.And I have noticed that the car will start in any gear.So I went looking for the problem I noticed that it wouldn't activate the back up lights also.

I crawl up under the car to check the rod that goes from the column to the trans and guess what??No rod!!

So now my question is since my car is a console mounted shifter will any buick monte or g body column shifted rod work or do I need find and pull one from a floor mounted one. Thank's Kevin

you need one from a g body car w/ floor shifter or column shifter.

The rod should be the same between column and floor shift vehicles. So you could grab the rod out of any G body.
Beware though, sometimes the lock mechanism in the columns get worn and people will remove the rod. I have seen this a few times. The column will get loose and have too much slop to retain the adjustment down at the trans resulting in either not being able to turn the key to engage the starter or binding of the shifter.

Yea I checked it and my colum is tight.the engine and trans was pulled more then once on this car before I got it so I think someone eaither bent the old one or just Decided they didn't need it.

Went to the junk yard today and got one and installed it works like new.Supprisingly i didn't even have to readjust it just installed it and it works great.And it indeed was from a column shift version.Thank's guys
