I just finished installing my Wilwood front brakes. It's a nice kit, with ONE exception. The wheel studes (1/2-20) that came with the kit are only 2" long and with Weld wheels I need 3" long studs So, I spent a day running around town looking for set of 3" 1/2-20 allen bolts that are threaded all the way to the bolt head. The only ones I could find were 40 miles away and are Moroso's. So, after getting the studs and fighting traffic for 4 hours to get them I did get them installed. I had a local hydraulic shop make me some DOT approved -3 hoses (12.5") The hoses are TFE braided -3 with a clear synthetic rubber outer coating. I also spiral wrapped the hoses with .032" stainless safety wire (like a tight spring) and then heat shrunk sleaving over them to prevent rubbing through. anyone else run Wilwood front brakes?

Nice, how much did the Wilwoods run ya??

Thanks again for the fuel assembly mod, now if I can only get the darn -8 barbed to fit in Summits -8 line

Here's the link to the brake kit from Jeg's: http://www.jegs.com/webapp/wcs/stor...irect&categoryId=13611&parentCategoryId=10155 They are $660. but you will have to supply your own hoses and required fittings. That'll run ya about $100 to do it right.

Are you using assembly lube on the -8 fittings? I use Lucas Heavy Duty Oil Addative or Hiltons Hyper-lube the THICK gorrila snot stuff or even STP would work good too. If you use your little finger to rub the lube inside the hose (be careful not to cut the crap outta your finger on the loose braids) If the braids have frayed too much they are a PAIN to install. I like to use Push-lock hose now days. It is much cheaper and my local hydraulic shop has it in stock. Just ask for 'JIC' push-lock hose and fittings (at a hydraulic supply shop, they also carry a full line of 'JIC' fittings that are equal to AN but are usually steel only and half as much $$), and its close to half as much as braided Russel or Earls stuff. The fittings are made from cad plated steel so they might not look a full race as anodized blue and red stuff, but it is NHRA legal. You can get it from Jeg's/Summit in blue or black hose with red/blue anodized light weight fittings.http://www.jegs.com/webapp/wcs/stor...irect&categoryId=20203&parentCategoryId=10019 http://www.jegs.com/webapp/wcs/stor...irect&categoryId=19175&parentCategoryId=10019 But I'm a cheap skate and don't care if the hose is black and the fittings weigh 1-2 oz. more ;)

Oh Ya, you'll have to take a Saws-All (or a hacksaw if you feel young and spry ;) ) to your stock spindle. You have to cut off almost all of the stock caliper mounting "arms". And you'll need to drill out the dust shield mounting screws to a letter "Q" drill. Then tap the holes to 3/8-24. Be sure to drill the holes deep enough for the long countersunk bolts that attach the caliper mounting plate. The holes MUST be drilled straight and tapped straight, too! This kit is a good set-up, but if you are limited in mechanical skills, I would reccomend the BAER brake kits. That kit is VERY easy to install. You only need about 5 wrenches, floor jack, bottle brake fluid, someone to help bleed them, side cutters (AKA dikes, but in the PC world of today we have to call them "Alternative lifestyle cutters" ;) ) The BAER kit installs in about 1/2 hr. per side. They do, however, move the wheels OUT about an inch, and that can cause a few problems for guys that run wide wheel/tires up front. Oh ya, one more thing you'll NEED with the BAER brakes is a DEEP wallet

Hey ive got a set on my car .......wasnt the safty wiring a pisser  bit of time for that but well you know the other option

I run Willwood

I got them on my fronts. I like them and the stopping is a noticalbe improvement. However, they, (Willwood,) told me they would only push out my wheels 1/8-1/4 inch. It was closer to a 1/2 inch. I wasn't veray happy about that. But I have made the nessacry mods. Of course my car is lowered and if it wasn't they may have worked out better. Ethier way i was happy with the product, as well as the price!

Did you need to use a spacer with the Wilwoods?
Any idea how much weight they save over the stock set up? Thanks.

No Spacer

No, a spacer would make my problem worse, by pushing the tire futher into the inner fender support. I had to cut it and set it back. Then I had all the room i needed. I posted pics on here about it before. I'll look to see if i can find.
No idea on the wieght savings.
