I live in Eastern Ontario and don't drive the GN during the winter months. Needless to say it doesn't get driven in the rain either, mostly because I hate cleaning it up afterward.

My wife just got her license so I needed to get myself a new DD as I gave her my 2003 Impala LS with the sport appearance package. It was a nice car just very boring and I couldn't wait to get something else. This past Monday I was perusing some dealerships and I came across a 2003 Mercury Marauder in Deep Blue Pearl. I had originally been looking for a small SUV.

I made a ridiculous offer, and I do mean rediculous and they accepted, so I ended up buying it. I figured it would do just fine in the winter. It turns out that I really like this car and now I don't have the heart to expose it to the salt and snow we get here. There was also no evidence of the previous owner having driven it in the winter and the mileage is well below average. To top it off it's pretty quick for a boat. I noticed that a had a cold air intake and I thought, cool, cause that's the first thing I would have added. After driving it for the last couple of days I noticed the car just feels much faster than they were supposed to be. I took a friend out and his comment was "the force is strong in this one". It breaks the tires loose on a roll and pulls hard upwards of 6,000 rpm's. I was intrigued so after some digging, I managed to locate the previous owner. It turns out they had installed a 3,500 stall Stallion torque converter as well as 4.10 gears and a tune.

The car goes into storage this Saturday, so now I am back in the same spot I started in. I didn't really want to drive a beater in the winter but now I don't have a choice cause I can't afford to by anything nice. At least my wife is understanding, she made fun of me, she knew all along I would probably end up putting this away too.

I still have this slight feeling of buyer's remorse but it's starting to fade. I just have to find something cheap now. I hate winter!

What did you pay for it? Body work is cheap, and is a good excuse for a new paint job ... but honestly ... you have to make EVERYTHING relative to each other ---

mid to late 90s blazers can be had under 3k and they seem to run forever. You can't go anywhere around the midwest without seeing one. I know a few people that have had them and never had any problems with them. Worst case scenario you might have to put a new egr on it with the gasket screen or do intake gaskets. Both cheap fixes. They aren't bad to work on either.
