wire harness question

Do you need the wiring harnes on the inside of the car for the engine to run properly, i want to run my own gauge cluster and electronics of my own on the inside. do i need to use anything from the harness for anything to work. I want to use the heating system from a ford thunderbird with the electronic thermostat and heat controls. And i have a guage cluster i made with all autometer gauges. And im using my own ignition system. If there is any technical info that you may have please respond. thanx

I asked bweavy about this. He told me about the vss, i asked him if that can by bypassed by an autometer mph guage with the odomoter reading, since im using my own cluster, if this is correct, does a wire still have to to go the computer, and the rest can be fudged. thanx for the info
