Here's a question for all you computer guys. I currently have a wireless network setup in my house 802.11b which I use with my laptop and Tivo. I would like to upgrade to 802.11g for my laptop while leaving the 802.11b running for the Tivo. Reason being because I have all the hardware already in place for the Tivo. Would this work? I know I would have to buy the router and a network card for the laptop. Thanks!!

Most G routers will allow B clients to attach without a problem simultaneously.

For sure, the Linksys G router does. I have B and G running at the same time in my house.....

Just get a router that is G.. In 99% of the cases it is backward compatible with the B.. Make sure you do not advertise your SSID or your neighbors will be using your internet.. ;)

g drops to b

Make sure your g router won't drop to b once you reconnect a b client. Have seen this many times. My g stuff goes through another router.

So basically, go buy a G router and G card for the laptop, unplug the old B router plug in the G and it will find the old 802.11B stuff?

Umm, what do you mean by "find the old" stuff? Will your 802.11b card attach and get an IP number from the G router? Yes.

I know for sure the Linksys will run the G and B simultaneously.

I have the Linksys G router and it works very well and redefines FAST for wireless. If you set it to run B & G simultaneously it'll degrade it's speed performance according to the manual. I don't have a B card so have no personal experience on just how much it affects speed.
