I was reading an older issue of Musclecar Review at work yesterday. There was a interview with a Buick Stage 1 engineer. He said he had Hydromatic build valve bodies for the Stage 1 cars with a calibration that would allow a automatic 3-1 downshift at speeds under 30mph. He said all other TH400 calibrations have a 3-2 downshift. Anybody in readerland have any clue how this was accomplished and more importantly could it be converted to a non Stage 1 valve body? Thanks!

BTW the engineer called this 3-1 kickdown the "Woodward launch factor", thus the reason for the title of my post.

Come on, nobody has any idea how to accomplish this?
