For all you folks 50 and older....
GET A COLONOSCOPY!!
I put it off, to 75. :bucktooth:
Procrastination, I guess. Am now "lucking out". The test provided an "opportunity" for some surgery. [Polyps too big to remove.]
The lucky part = no cancer.
My dr made it real clear I am the "creator" of this mess, in that a scope some yrs back, would/could have allowed me an escape from surgery.

JUST DO IT!!

A public health announcement, courtesy the resident dumass!:jawdrop:

The actual procedure is not a big deal. The prep is sucky. I had the wonderful experience of having a student nurse be in the room. I was like oh well she might as well get used to seeing hairy old butts. Luckily she wasn't anything to look at. Best part of the whole thing is you aren't released until you "pass gas". That was not a problem for me! It's funny how all these people are lined up in recovery waiting to fart. The nurses were funny about it too. I'm good for 5 more years.

As a nurse. Many if the terrible diseases we can get, can be avoided with proper testing and screenings. Now ofcourse sometimes it's just an unfair situation ,but as the OP said and what his dr said. We are the creators. Suck it up, get yourself checked. Your kids, grand kids and even the Mrs will be happy you did.

10-4 on all the above!! I started mine at about age 60. Most reputable doctors will say once every 10 years thereafter. Ya, the procedure is nothing, because they put you out here where I get mine, but....... The 24 hours leading up to the procedure SUCK!! or should I say BLOW!!

My first visit to my Gp was witnessed by a 4th yr med student...She was a HOTTIE! [An Italian from Oak Park, Il.] She got a full on shot of both sides!! She was a bit faint when he checked the boys out, tho!

Yep, the prep sucked. The farts were enjoyable! :D
They used Propofol. INSTANT goodbye!
Don't know what the actual surgery will be like. Other than having the "boys" unhooked, I've never been cut on......

Hum, I think the board needs a new section for old farts to talk medical issues.:oldman:

The term I have used for many years is anal glaucoma... Lol

And it doesn't hurt to go for a stress test every now and then too. You see back in February I had a heart attack. 100% blockage of the LCA. Took them 2 months to figure it out.

Damn dude... when you say "older than most" you aren't kidding. :D. Glad to hear you're healthy.

Chuck (or anyone else, for that matter), I went through that at 50, 4 years ago. Had my "you are 50 and have insurance so here's your punishment" colonoscopy and they found "something" they couldn't biopsy because it was too thin and they would perf the wall, so they took a foot of colon so they would get it all no matter what. If you are going to have a partial colectomy and want to talk about what to expect, what foods you can eat while you recover, or anything else, just call or email. Oh, the good news is I lost 35 lbs in 3 weeks :-) :-). Only took 3 years to put it back on, sigh. Wasn't cancer but was only one step away so would have become cancer after some more years. Had 5 colonoscopies in 4 years now so don't hardly notice them anymore, but I should be done for at least 3 years (wahoo). Course, that kidney stone that lit up last Thursday is still talking pretty loudly, sigh - hoping it will pass next week, or I go for the lithotripsy. Best wishes, hope it goes well, and contact me if I can help in any way.

Carl, thanks for the response! (y)
I'm to see the "rotorooter" man, to hear what he's got planned for me, next Thurs. Once that's done, I'll shoot you a PM

Carl, glad to hear you got the right treatment. Stay healthy!

Getting old is not for the weak of heart.

My uncle once told me that "Getting old is just mind over mater". "If you don't mind, it doesn't matter".

For the record, I'll be turning Big 5 0 this year. Don't forget! There are some positives to getting old.

*No more pimples.
* If I start to go bald, I can do a comb over from all the extra ear and nose hair I now have.
*You stop caring what others think.
*senior discounts.
*In a hostage situation, you are likely to be released first.
*Your secrets are safe with your friends because they can't remember them either.
*Your supply of brain cells is finally down to a manageable size.
