Can I put some exhaust wrap on a thdp without removing it?

It would cost you more time than the 5 minutes it was take to remove it.

If I wanted to turn my THDP into a flame wick, I'd just remove it and do it.

If you want to reduce under hood temps get it coated @ Swain Tech with Whitelighting. This is not your run of the mill ceramic coating, about $40 per ft on DP's . I'm having my headers , crossover & downpipe done before I put in my new motor. Check out their site @ Swaintech.com. Hey Ryan my son is stationed there at Trippler. He drives a turbo too, but it's a Cobalt SS , maybe you have seen it , all blacked out with no stupid hammerhead spoiler and orange wheels , yes orange wheels. With a good tune it runs strong for a 4 banger. Sam

Wish we could do those things in Hawaii. The shipping both ways to Hawaii would be way more than it's worth. We constantly get screwed out here. I go to the VA quite often wich is behind trippler and my wife uses trippler for her tricare so we are there quite a bit. If I see him, i'll flag him down. Orange wheels huh?

If I see that Cobalt anywhere near me, I'll show him who's boss ;)

Ryan: Call some of the powdercoating places on island and see if they do ceramic coating.

Austin, was that your GN on MCBH? Duct tape on the truck?

Hell naw. In the Army stationed up at Wheeler/Schofield and I live toward North Shore. I rarely go on that side of the island but I was in Kailua a few days ago to hike the Olomana Trail. Definitely no duct tape on the GN. However, on the Kia Spectra? Yeah, there's duct tape on that (seriously).

He knows all about TR's .... He was born in 86 and I had one then.:) His SS runs real strong , not all stock .That guy in a new corvette that he ran when he was here sure was shocked. Torque steer in a bitch !! Just sent him a new 3 bar MAP so he can put his tune back in and run it like it should. Funny thing is he was chasing vacuum leaks for quite a while, sound familiar ? :D He ran into a guy on Oahu that runs a nasty Solstace GXP , he's big into his turbo's and helped my son get his car sorted out.
My son is a Army BioMed tech at Trippler, loves to fix things !!

Rarely see many Solstaces, Solsti, Solstacee..... around Oahu. Prolly all sleepers. Saw an 87 GN at Ala Moana yesterday. Looked like a woman was driving. Was far away....could not tell. Need to get my T back on the road and knock the dust off of it and get the cob webs out of the exhaust. The crappy weather has really slowed me down.

Yes but will be easier to just remove it.

Remove the 4 bolts from the DP that go in to the Exhaust housing of the Turbo. Then remove the bolts at your Y-Pipe/Test Pipe or exhaust clamp for the catalytic converter. Pull DP out, spray and wrap.

Everything goes back the same except Nickel Anti - Seize on the bolts and High Temp RTV on the DP/Exhaust housing or Gasket of your choice or nothing.

Drive and Enjoy!

I would not wrap a pipe. Had a few friends wrap very expensive headers and they literally crumbled within the wrap. When they took the wrap off to replace it because it acts like a sponge and soaks up any oil that may leak from the engine, the pipes had numerous cracks and were very rusty.

To add what SS/GN said, being it's possible to soak any oil from engine and with that much heat it could catch on fire.:banghead:

In testing we found that a heat deflector shield above the header( like Nascar) worked the best but even then we saw no return on the work. This was in a superstock car with a carb and factory hood.
