wrong chip???

i started my car today. fresh everything, i have 50lb inj and i thought the chip i had was for 50's but it is smokin black real bad so i had to turn the pressure down to like 29 with it running and the smoke stops, but it runs like chit.... also i have an EGR block off plate.. and i dont think this chip is burned for that.. can all of this cause these problems??? i know it sounds retarded and it prob is the chip, but i amwaiting on the new ones i ordered to get here and i was "told" it was for 50's.... thanks
