I would hope it could run 9.9's, as it ran 10.5's with a 1.88 60 ft.

Do people with WRX's think their cars are capable of 9 second or 10 second timeslips based on this?

It looks like he has about $40K "invested" Plus the cost of the WRX and breakage.

Seems to me their are a lot of easier ways to a 9 second timeslip but maybe that's just me.

If someone has the money, why not? Not everyone is hung up on "Cheap".

There is also a blue WRX that runs high 9's. Local goes mid 11's on un-opened motor. Pretty impressive for 2.0 ltr motor. :D

I can't speak on behalf of the entire WRX community, but I would have to think that nobody thinks their going to be putting up these numbers without some serious investment. I personally have always been drawn towards cars that have small engines making big power. Not say that I don't like big block because I do in classic iron.

I think that a 2.0 that's stock and I mean stock, and capable of running low 14's from the factory is impressive. Not to mention all of the little bolt on's that can get you a reliable low 12 high 11 timeslip.

It's simply impresive what these new wave of cars are doing.

what about the srt-4!! it will smoke a wrx for WAY less money!! the srt-4 is the hot ticket!:D

Once again, its not about the money, its about the car. A Neon is a Neon. Sure the turbo version is quick, but imho, you get what you pay for.
The WRX is a complete package, handling, braking, power etc. Just do a few searches on road tests.

Yup! The SRT-4 is the second fastest car in Dodge's line up, but I don't think it's the complete package. I'm sure for the drier areas the SRT-4 the $***, but here in the NW I need AWD.

yeah, but put the extra 8 grand in a srt-4 and it will do anything better than a wrx. also a subaru is not a high end car either.

also a wrx is a family grocery getter imprezia just like a srt-4 is a neon,so whats your point?

I don't think I'll be putting 8 grand in any car. You seem to be very passionate about the SRT-4. Tell you what you say that the SRT will smoke the WRX, I would agree stock for stock. Now, I challenge you to find one that's gone 9'sin STREET TRIM:eek:

Please post the link to the video or article. No other comment needed just the link.

Welp, AWD is going to cost you a little more than 8k. I have owned a Neon, and it was a total pos. It literally started to fall apart after 2 years. You abviously have never driven a WRX. It is 10x the car the Neon will ever hope to be. The WRX was built on Subarus rally program, unlike the str-4, which is a glorified Neon.

The str-4 is indeed a fast little car, but comparing its overall performance with a WRX is childish.

how is it childish to compare two cars.the wrx is inspired by rally, not a rally car.do you think you can compete with a stock wrx in rally?if so than thats childish.

Welp, there are TONS of people who rally race bone stock WRX's. And no, the WRX IS based on the WRX that has been availiable in Europe, Japan and Australia for years. Let me simplify things for you. I OWNED an Neon, and it was junk. I don't care if it ran 10's, it was still a Sh!tbox. I also owned a GN, and it was a FAST car, but for all around performance, the WRX is the best car I have ever owned......and prolly the best bang for the buck.

A good comparison would be the WRX and the EVO....not a Neon.

i took a look at the numbers on both cars on www.sportcompactcarweb.com and they go as followed:

wrx 0-30- 2.0, 0-60-5.2 ,30-50-2.3,50-70-3.4,1/4 mile 14.6@91.8 mph .84 on the skidpad , 67.4mph in the slalom and 60-0 in 115ft.

srt-4 0-30-2.5 sec.,0-60-5.8, 30-50-2.0, 50-70-3.0, 1/4 mile in 14.2@99.5 mph,.85g on the skidpad,the slalom at 69.0 mph and 60-0 in 119 ft. pretty good numbers for a NEON.

the srt-4 numbers are 2003 model numbers compared to 2004 wrx numbers. the 2004 srt-4 is an even better car.so i guess that the srt-4 is a excellent all around performer. :D;) ;)

I'm not intrested in stock for stock. A $400 ECU reflash will take of these numbers. Inside tip on a WRX the stock WRX runs a 10:1 A/F ratio for saftey. An ECU reflash from Cobb Tuning will put the WRX at 265 hp. If I put aftermarket catback exhaust and an ECU reflash brings me up to 280hp.

Not bad for just 2 changes. Most WRX owners with these two changes are in the low 13's.

What's your stock GN and your GN with the 51 run?

One conclustion that I've drawn from this thread and the article related to these cars, there a definete HP war going on with the Compact Sport Cars and the consomers are benifiting.:D

Whether your in the SRT-4, EVO or WRX corner it's just a turn of the wick to get more ponies out of these cars. My point to this thread was that the WRX has achieved a 9 second timeslip in street trim.

No matter what the car is, 9 seconds with full interior, radio, AC that is street legal from a 4 banger is simply impressive!

your right,hp is easy to make with the wrx as well as the srt-4.they are both nice cars,i just didnt want people to be misinformed as to the str-4's well balanced performance.it is a car to be reconded with just as the wrx is.they both exibit very good performance.mopar and other venders also have a ton of parts to make the srt-4 produce gobbs of power also.nice debate.:D

Depends on your definition of street trim but I think these guys got cars that are comparable to the 9 sec WRX. You can make anything fast for enough bucks so these comparisons are pointless. Just buy what you want. I think both of these cars(neon and wrx) are dog ugly and wouldn't own either one but they are pretty impressive from a performance standpoint. Why can't someone take one of these mini monster turbo motors and put it in a cool looking light body.

I don't think there comprable at all. One has full interior to include side impact air bags and the other is completely stripped!

That Neon is a full on race car. The WRX has a license plate and driven on the street...

Len Ayala has a 9 sec street driven Neon, 1st gen before they factory turbo'd. He works at Hahn. I hate Neons but hey fast is fast. It had to be good they actually featured it in Car Craft
