When you switched to a different gasket what did you do about the grooves. Mill heads. Try to fill the grooves. Or leave the grooves there.

You'll have to mill the heads to remove the groves or continue to use 1007 Lockwire gaskets.

We have a couple sets of iron heads and a set of alum heads running around with the grooves still in them. No problems so far?

Nick does have a point there. I haven't tried this myself but it should work. This would only hold true if you went back to a gasket with a small flame ring dia. Since the 1007 gasket has a dia of 4.090" the stock gasket with it's 3.8xx" bore should work.
