My lt has taken a crap, and will reboot over and over. Best I can tell, it has to do w/ some corrupted stuff that's been loaded on.
When attempting to get to safe mode to dump that crap, I toggle F8, will list my options. I choose "safe mode", hit enter.. The system still trys to boot up windows. It gets to the desktop, and then attempts a reboot, over and over.
Can't get to safe mode...[Been trying for at least 3 hrs]
How does one get there?? $hit can the HD, shoot the guy that I paid to upgrade and install some programs? Buy a new LT?
This is a Compaq Presario R3000 w/ added ram. It's about 5 yrs old, and been used very little.
NE ideas?????

Chuck when I send them injectors to ya i'll include the Linux Ubuntu CD, easy install and i promise you'll be done with windows.

You'll have to boot from disc Chuck. I had this problem once myself and it sucks.

Will that system allow me to run programs I now run w/windoz?
I use this LT for running EFILIVE on the late GM PCMS

I have

You'll have to boot from disc Chuck. I had this problem once myself and it sucks.

several discs that came with this unit.
Would booting from a disc be something I'd have to do all the time, or just til I can find out WTF is wrong.??
Someone said I may have gotten a corrupted Windoz update.
I'm wondering as I had the problem on a bootup after a month or so of no use.
I then had the machine dumped, and then Windoz XP Pro was installed. The next time I used it, same stuff.
I'm beginning to wonder if it's the HDD that's taken a crap??

Booting from the disc will allow you to see what happened. You may have a bad down load and it's causing the problem or you may have a trojon in your puter. Once you get it up and operating down load superantispyware for free and do a scan to see if you caught a bug. I've been using it for a few years now and haven't had any more nasty suprises. It will eliminate tracking cookies and trojons as well as a few other problems. Do you have a fire wall on it?

Yes on the firewall. I have windoz firewall, and have the wireless shut off.
I had Bitdefender on it, when it was wiped clean, and was not able to get it to reload, even w/ the key code...
I have 4 discs.
1 is op system CD
1 " Application recovery CD
2 are driver recovery discs

Do a search for Comodo firewall Chuck, and stop using the windows one. It sucks big time and the comodo is also free. It will agrivate you to begin with because it will ask if you want to allow an update ect until it learns what is safe. Great program.

Load the operating system disc and boot from that one. You may have to use the most recent recovery disc though. You won't know until you load it up though.

Just got called into work so I won't be back until after 7PM. TTYL Chuck.

Got it..

corrected. FINALLY, using the original disc, I got to safe mode. I deleted the programs I thot were fubar...The big one being the latest version of EFILIVE!
Had to reinstall a driver for the wireless. Done deal.
All's working now.
Did a defrag,, DAMN! Just w/ a totally new system, and the problems, it took nearly an hr to get it cleaned up.

NE how, THANKS!

The three main problem solvers I user are the two I mentioned and one called Regcure. YOu have to pay for Regcure but it goes through your system and fixes dead ends and reroutes your files so they work faster. All three together keep mine happy so you may want to think about picking them up.

I highly recommend that once you get your computer to run where you are satisfied with it get the Acronis suite and make a backup of your hard drive. If you ever run into a problem where your hard drive dies or some virus or malware gets in and corrupts your system Acronis will get you back up and running within half an hour.
