Can you folks steer me in the right direction for some Xylene mixture ratios and the obtained approximate octane levels?

Thanks a bunch,
Bill

Try a search for Xylene, lots of info has been posted about the "proper" blends :)

I was perusing the search....

There are a number of blend ratios listed by various folks.

Wow.

Where to start.....on the conservative side, no doubt!

OK, the ratio I've had the best luck with is a 1:3 mix... 1 gallon of xylene for every 3 gallons of super unleaded. Any higher than that & the return for the investment, so to speak, isn't worth the extra cost IMO.

117 (xylene) + (93 * gallons of gas) / total gallons of homebrew = your final octane rating

The 1:3 blend runs right at 99 octane & is compareable to running 100 octane unleaded race gas (Philips, Sunoco, etc..) or an alky system. Be sure to use some top cylinder lube such as Marvel Mystery Oil when making a homebrew, as the xylene WILL dilute the lubricants normally found in pump gas. I use 2~3 ounces of MMO for every 12 gallon batch of homebrew (3 gallons xylene, 9 gallons pump gas)

Hope this helps a bit :)

Where can you get marvel mystery oil, I've heard of people useing a couple teaspoons of ATF. Will that work?

MMO has been around for years. You can get just about anywhere that sells auto supplies.

Time to go shopping for Xylene!

Thanks for all the responses, folks.

I'll call the industrial supply joints in town and see what I can come up with.

I'm sick and tired of the RADICAL differences in fuel quality around here.

I TRY to buy at ONLY the highest sales volume fuel stations in the hopes of getting the freshest fuel.

Well, last night I bought at one of the "good" stations (or so I thought).
Guess what? Two green lights on the knock gauge!
S**T!
This fuel problem is getting tiresome, it's time for homebrew I guess.

Thanks again, folks.

Missouri T, I was just talking with my brother today, about trying out some Xylene. Seems like alot better than octane booster. I saw some at Home Depot last time I picked up some Denatured Alky, about a week and half ago. It was in the paint section with the rest of the chemicals. Dont remember what quantity it came in though.

Also, Auto Zone sells Marvel Mystery Oil. I use it for my alky pump.
