o.k., here's the deal. i started driving my car again and noticed over the weekend that the car was acting stupid and i was getting like 789 mV @ 5lbs of boost. any more boost than that and the car would detonate and just act crazy. me and bmason narrowed it down to a fueling problem. i was thinking the pump, he was saying check other things.

well, we decided to replace my solenoid after tracking down why my battery kept dying when i parked the car. the solenoid for my hotwire kit was dying/dead or something. anyway, we replaced that yesterday and the car runs great.

the only problem i have now is that after playing with it last night on the way home from laurel, md. it's detonating for no reason at 16-17 psi and i was running 50 psi of fp line off at first. i'm now running around 46 because the 02's were 820 mV.

now at 46 psi of fp and 16 psi of boost it's still giving me 5.9 degress or more of knock. what could this be. i've never had this problem before. the car pulls good it's just that on scanmaster you can see the knock increasing and then it tickles my audible knock detector. can you guys give me any insight as to what it might be. my exhaust isn't hitting anything during a pull through the gears it's just knocking for some reason and i can't figure out why.

What octane do you have?93 octane is marginal for 15psi of boost and higher.

yeah, 93! I've also run 19 psi on 93 with my setup before also. i'm just trying to get back to that.

Solenoid for a hot wire kit? 'Splain?

My GN knocks above 15 PSI on 93 octane. I keep reading stories of guys running 18, 19, 20 and more PSI on pump gas. Knock is a function of cylinder pressure. So, how did you REDUCE cylinder pressure in order to accomplish this - cam, pistons, what???

:)

Do they switch to a reformulated fuel during the winter months in your area?

You mean the relay??

I would splash in a little race gas or xylene, or turn the boost down a bit, see what happens. Good luck!

yeah, i did mean relay. the solenoid in my head must be stuck this morning. :D

What chip are you running? It would have to be really low timing like a T-92 to get 19 on pump gas.

You shuold run the same FP you ran before fixing the relay

i don't think that running the same fp would be a good idea. the reason is because i'm getting more fuel now. if i turned it back up it would be really rich. it's rich now, but still detonating. i was just out for lunch and at 822 i got 6.6 degrees. i just don't get it.

I think you misunderstood me. You should run the same FP you ran when you supposedly had 19psi and zero knock.

Why would you be getting more fuel? I dont see where you changed anything mechanical that would supply more fuel. A new relay wont change that

yeah, the relay was the problem with the fueling. the relay is under the bumper and i guess the weather got to it. the pump wasn't getting enough power through that relay because of i guess corrosion or something.

i didn't want to leave the fuel pressure where it was because it would be rich because of the pump. so actually a new relay did change that. the relay was the limiting factor for the power to the fuel pump, seriously!

i see what you're saying about going back to the same fp i was running at 19 psi though. i am there at 46 psi of fp, and it's just not cooperating.

Do anyone know the part number for the(hotwire) relay?...I think thats my problem right now....

I'd think it's the weather. If you stopped driving it when it was warmer and now it's 20-30 degrees colder, the air is more dense and you're making more hp. It happens to me all the time, so I just turn on the alcohol and it goes away. :)

possibly a plug or wire missfiring up in boost

hard to feel but can create knock and rich condition from the raw fuel from the missfire.

thanks red, i never thought about that. i haven't changed those since before the last time it was at the track. i believe that was the track rental at MIR in october.

Winter blended gas ignites at a lower flash point. Making the car detonate at the same boost. Turn the boost down.

Don't forget.........As a car sits for any period of time, your gonna lose a LOT of octaine. My guess is you have a LOT less then 93 octaine now. Just a thought.............KB
