sounds like someone sprinkled some voo-doo chicken blood on your car. I've also exsperiences this similar problem on my LaSabre, that voodoo chicken blood can really screw up a car sometimes!!

If they are failing you because of the K&N filter, you can get a special sticker from K&N which will make it smog legal, my friend just put a sticker on his turbo supra, and it's now a legal filter.

definatly replace the TC lockup solenoid and maybe replace the converter, and if you haven't done it by now, I would remove the cats with straight pipe too. I've gained 2 xtra mpg by removing the monolithic cats and dropped my temp by 6 deg.
