So my buddy picked up the 268 horse, 248 tq 2007 Toyota Camry. He said it is quick. I was like, yeah, sure, sure, its a Camry

Car and Driver lists it as a 14.3 @ 99 mph in the 1/4 mile. I challenged him in a race at the dragstrip with my near stock 1987 Grand National. It is gonna be close

Only real performance mods to the GN is a Reds93 chip and open element air filter. We'll probably have to do a best of 5 races to determine the winner.

Not sure when he can make it to the track, so I'm gonna do some test n tune to see what it runs this saturday at BMP. I think it has a 13.7 @ 99 in it. I'll lock the converter too just in case

The new Camry is an awesome car regardless. Decent styling, rarely seen on a Toyota. Seeing as I work for the company, I hope to see them continue on with nicer designs like that. Obviously you'd win, it's a freakin' Camry. Stomp him at the strip and then watch him fly past on the way home as you need to stop for gas. :)

The GN would win by a long shot.

The new Camrys are kinda of nice but they too would have to be running high octane fuel to get any real performance out of them, I'd say the tests were not done with plain 87 in the tank like most of the street driven ones would be running on.

Mazda called, they want their design back!!!!
2005 or so Mazdas had this design;

I too belong to the Toyota family but I have very little faith in what they produce, just because they say it's the best, doesn't mean they are good cars. True they may last slightly longer than some vehicles but a simple google seach for "toyota sludge" with show tens of thousands of angry toyota owners who bought into the whole we are better theory and lost. GM will so be beating the crap out of them with the new hybrid and hydrogen series vehicles that toyota is late in the game getting to. The only toyota that scares my GN is the Supra and we all know how that ended. Toyota.com : Vehicles : Supra

I had to replace the engine in my Camry for the sludge issue and changed the oil every 2500 miles:mad: The car is gone but I still was let down by the "quality" the V6 engines had in the design.

Unless the Camry guy is running high test, you should have too much of problem beating him. At least you can point out that a good GN or T is going up in value, something no Camry owner has ever been able to claim for an extended period of time.

14.4 @ 95.09 was all she had in her today.

Did your friend make it? That's pretty close. I just took my 04 Maxima last night to try it out. The first thing I found out is you can't launch a fwd like the Buicks. Smoked the single tire half the track. After a few trys changing my technique I got down to a 14.8@94.07. Not too bad for a 4 door family car. I have no mods either, even a stock air filter.

No he didn't make it. I lost to a Lightning and a new Mustang GT. They both ran high 13's. Oh well, next time I'm bringing the Turbo T:cool:
