I recently acquired a 16" perma-cool fan (2950 cfm) for the right price. I was wondering if the you guys find that you can get away with one fan or need two. The engine will at some point be heavily modified, but it isn't right now. I suspect that the bigger turbo and such will increase the need for potentially another fan. Just wondered what the board's experience was.

Thanks,
Nathyn

I currently have the same fan you refer to. I also installed a 10 in to go along with it. The 16 works well but, to do the dual you can't use a pair of them ( rad not wide enough). I plan on going with a pair of 14,s so they can be mounted side by side. My car hasn't been street driven yet so I can't give you a real world answer on how well the 16 works by itself.

Thanks for the reply...

Yeah two 16s won't fit by standard attachment means...i made a stainless steel bracket to hold two 16s on my cutlass. A little bit of each fan over hangs the finned section, but they work great. Just wondered if the 3.8 would need two or not.

Thanks again

'86/'87 cars came factory with a single electric fan. They work just fine and dont flow anywhere near 2950cfm (probably almost half that amount:eek: ). I know first hand of guys going low 11's with them and I'm sure there are 10 sec cars with the stock single fan. As long as your coolant temp is where it needs to be, doesnt have anything to do with turbo size.
If you want to go duals, go duals. I just installed the Ramcharger's dual fans. I think they are rated more like 2350 cfm (not sure). Fits very nice between rad end tanks.
