I have a bone stock 87 GN, I want to be 12 second capable but still retain dependability, and on a budget. Any tips?

Turn up the boost put some better gas and buy yourself a chip/scanmaster thats all you really need. You will run high Very high 12's though but you'll be in the 12's :D

fuel pump, hotwired. adj fuel reg .good chip, injectors i am sure plenty have done with less, but this would be a safe combo

Turn the Boost Down to 9-10psi, then first add a HP intank fuel pump/or auxiliary unit ,Add NOS's for a GN 150hp nitrous kit (fogger nossle in the inlet pipe) ,100 octane fuel, gutted Cat.,sticky tires, 11.90's e.t.'s - 12 Flat... ,total investment $1000 or less if buy used..... (draw back : refilling the NOS bottle )
Then you'll get into all the other parts an pieces that will fail racing..goodbye budget.!!!

 NOS? Thats why you have had so much bad luck with all your motor's :p J.K..But seriusly forget the nos...IT Will get too complicated with the nos window switch wiring etc.., just turn up the damn boost and run some good gas check your scanmaster and make sure you dont have any knock retard.. You should be good.. Make sure to do a Spring cleaning before you decide to turn up the boost.

Best friend in the world is going to be that little column that say's "SEARCH" Start researching, get ready for a wild ride and empty pockets.. And weird noises which consist of tapping and sewing machine lifter noises that come and go..:D And if your ever in need of help on the street just dial 8787 there's a few undercover FBI GNX car's that'll come to your rescue they were the GNX prototype's and have very expensive hood pad's (9 hole) :D:p lol J.K This last paragraph is a joke the first isnt!

tires, converter, chip, hotwire, and adjustable wastegate rod. The nitrous will do it too, but not really necessary to run a 12.

I was on NOS with my car still on factory warranty...8^) ,that motor lasted 113,000 miles,Stack of time slips 1/2 foot high!!
It's when i went into the motor All the Problems started (Just like everyone else)

NOS is the biggest bang for a "Budget". Plum the Nos line, wire two solenoids, end of the fuel rail supplies the fuel,If you get the GN kit ,it's Breeze,Use the factory chip....(don't forget to turn factory boost setting down to 9-10psi,when you hit the NOS it'll give to 10 More psi.......(i had my switch button on phone cord wire attached to my steering wheel.

Fuel upgrades including some good race fuel, A good chip, some sticky tires, an adjustable wastegate actuator and if the car is all stock the first thing you should do is valve springs.

Thanks for all the tips. I have already picked up a Hooker cat back system, the motor is currently being freshened up ( all new gaskets, oil pump etc), I also have a NOS GM ECM and harness I'm installing in the car. I'll be looking for a good chip and possibly a scan-master in the very near future.

MAKE SURE you upgrade the valve springs if they are still the stockers.

Any recommendations on springs? I'm new to the TR game as this is my first TR. previously a big TPI small block guy

Comp 980's are a decent stock replacement. There are others tho. Hopefully the other guys will chime in on brand recommendations as well.

Read my sig. 12.87 on street tires. Could prorbably do better with my dr's. nothing special, just e85 and a tt chip with 60# inj's. the double pumper is not required. I did the 12.87 with just one pump. I bought the double pumper to plan for future mods.

I went 12.20s on my stock turbo with hw walbro and alky. The 75lb TA replacement valve springs are good too and easy on the FT cam. I went 11.343 on my 75lb valvesprings.

Is a downpipe necessary for a car that will be in the 12's? I remember from the Grand prix days exhaust helped eliminate some knock.

Not necessary for 12's.
