67 Gto I'm changing alternator on. The new alternator has an internal regulator, also there is a regulator mounted on the firewall. Common sense says don't double regulate, so how would I go about eliminating the external regulator? Thanks for any help.

Thanks!

What's better to do? An internal regulator alternator & conversion or go with the factory style alt & ext regulator? Any benefit to either one?

I suppose it's as much personal preference and/or what other modifications you plan.

If you're adding updated sound systems, lighting, or ignition components then you might want the newer internally regulated for more amperage and ease in finding parts.

Me, I'm too "old school" I guess. I still have an external regulator on my '70. It is the more modern solid state type, though. The sound system is an 8 track tape player and an AM/FM radio. I seldom play either one when driving. I enjoy hearing it run too much to be distracted with music. No A/C, no power windows, seats, or door locks. Heck, I'd still have points in the distributor if John Osborne hadn't said he wouldn't rebuild anyone's Q-jet if they didn't convert the ignition system. :D

I used this site to wire my newer style alternator in my '69 Chevelle. No issues, works fantastic. The motor is a '72 chevy small block 400, I put the entire serpentine set up on it from a 1994 Olds Bravada. Probably the best mod I've done to date. Single belt set up is awesome.
