Hey guys I just joined your impressive website today and I'm hoping to get a little help from you all since I am brand new to the Buick turbo world. I recently aquired a 1985 GN from my wifes Aunt who let this thing sit in a garage for the last 15+ years! It has some bugs but I've been tinkering around with it and it is starting to run better. One of my questions is I bought a performance chip from performancechipsdirect.com and it wants me to install it inline with the IAT(intake air temp sensor) which I can not find on my motor?!?! Any help from u guys will b greatly appreciated. If anyone wants to let me know what else I should do to this car, which is all stock, that would also be greatly appreciated. Thanks everyone

Welcome aboard, post some pic s an I don't remember a chip in line on the intake, just one in the ecm. on the lower right kick panel

86 Regal W-11/CC-1T Type

hey flash and welcome ,are cars dont have a iat ,thats 86 and 87 and 89,personally i would send the chip back and go with turbo tweak chip if its a option,2nd there are stickys at the top of the H/A thread that will tell you what you need, imo before any speed goodies get your....fp,boost,oil guages first and see what your car is doing mechanically;)also put in the spring cleaning in the serch bar to catch up on the last 15 years of sitting ,then if the car is running good look into 86or 87 ecm get scanmaster and chip and tune, great your on the path, now get fuel pump hot wire kit,adj wastegate and fpr and tune agin:)o ya did i mention patience and pocket book also:rolleyes:

I knew I was coming to the right place for the right answers!!! Thanks sooo much for the input but first of all what is the H/A thread, remember Im a GN greenhorn, and next I'm asuming that fp is a fuel pump right? Don't mean to sound stupid just want to do this the right way. And one more thing I know I should do all the little things first but I'm a 42 year old child when it comes to speed and I want this GN to beat my 68 Mustang GT fastback!! But I will take your advise and try to b patient. Thanks for the help

hey ctflash
i just recently picked up a 85 gn and he is right about bringing a pocket book lol.
the chip you bought is probably the old resistor in a box trick that fools the computer into thinking its colder air coming in, so it injects more fuel, probably was cheap right?under $20
if it is just send it back and do some reading before you commit to buying a chip, cause if your going to make any other modifications you will need to have a chip burned accordingly

It was cheap($69) and I should have know better its not like I don't know anything about chips and controllers cuz I put an edge controller in my ford diesel for a mere $900. I also put what this company calls their stageII chip in which wires in line with the O2 sensor, this was also $69 so a total of $140. Should I just return both? Thanks for the info

Yep both are worthless. A Turbo Tweak 5.7 prom chip will be one of the best investments for the car for $85.

When you open this section there are posts that stay at the top. Those are stickys so the tech info isn't lost over time. Start reading them and it will save you a bunch of time.;)

Turbo Tweak 5.7 93 oct chip for 84/85 $85 (buy injectors first so the chip matches them)
3X9 K&N cone air filter from Summit Racing $45 (remove factory airbox and put filter on end of MAF sensor)
Autolite 25 spark plugs gapped at .032 $12 (24's can be used also)
Remove cat and install test pipe muffler shop$50-$75 (or you can just hollow out the cat)
3" pinion snubber Kirban Performance $35
Adjustable wastegate for 84/85 turbo you will have to find this one kind of scarce now days (if the one on the turbo is threaded you won't need to buy one)
Walbro 255L fuel pump and hot wire kit Turbo Tweak $160
Blue Top 36lb injectors or 009 42.5lb used $100-$125 (I have a good set of blue tops if you want them)
Reroute coolant lines from throttle body $2
Ported/polished turbo exhaust elbow G-Body Parts $80
Dual Ramcharger fans with Casper hi/lo relays for 84/85 G-Body Parts $269 (also pick up a 160 stat $10)
Change out the stock valve springs with 100lb Comp springs let a mechanic do this trust me $100 or so at Summit Racing + labor

I highly recommend that some gauges or a scanmaster is installed to monitor engine performance and knock retard levels. You also should change out the fluids and fuel filter before hand.

That sounds pretty good not too bad on the pocket book!!lol. I'll probably take u up on ur offer for the blue tops how much u looking to get for them? And again I appreciate all the great info! Let me know on those injectors thanks

Well I could have put a ta-33 turbo and a 2800 stall 10" convertor lol. Just keeping it affordable for ya!

Do not get the snubber. They may look good in slow cases but actually cause other traction issues.;) It's a band aid of sorts and you're better off without it.

I forgot an adj fuel pressure regulator my bad $120 at RJC Racing

Boxed lowers instead Charlie?

He'd be better with boxed uppers Shawn. Since the sway bar is attached to the lowers they're already stiffer. Box the uppers and you get an advantage. If you use a snubber it limits the movement of the rear and weight transfer.;)
