Well, picked up my T-type yesterday! As the title says, it is a 1986 WH1. It has less then 88k original miles on the body and frame. The car runs strong and has cold R134a A/C and vacuum brakes. Bench seat with a column shift :frown: that's the ONLY thing I don't like about it and plan on converting to floor shift and bucket seats in the future. The engine and transmission were both rebuilt about 2k miles ago. It has a T-60 turbo and 42# injectors with a custom burned chip, cold air filter, and some other parts that I don't have memorized yet.

It seems that the company that rebuilt it (Collingdale Performance) either didn't have a lot of experience with these cars, or the last owner stopped writing the checks. The reason I say that is because it seems like a lot of the little stuff that could have been done wasn't. Like I don't have a receipt for an upgraded fuel pump (do have them for everything else) or a hotwire kit. There is a larger turbo but a stock down pipe. Stock MAF, etc..

That's OK though. A lot of the stuff that WAS done was a lot more expensive then the stuff that wasn't! I really think that once I do the little things this engine will really open up. Collingdale used a Mustang Dyno and rated it at 300HP but said that they think if they use a regular dyno that it would be closer to 340HP. I have no idea what they mean by that.

I drove it home from Delaware to Chesapeake VA yesterday. 7 hours total with 2 hours in stop and go traffic with no issues what so ever. Very happy so far!

Maybe I should change my name!!!

(pics to follow)

Congratulations. Sounds like a nice car. Funny, I converted mine from buckets to a split bench and column. It was the chepaest way to go at the time because I had a parts car. It's an Easy conversion though.

Got any pics?

Thanks! I WOULD have pics right now...but if you look in the VA Area section...you will see a thread that the weather here just turned to junk...:( Hopefully it will clear up and I can show off my car!

HERE is the thread that the last owner put up to sell it though.

Congratulations on the purchase!! I miss my WH-1 all the time, bit Im still very happy with my GN as well. If it were me, I'd leave the interior alone. I've never seen a bench seat column shift WH-1 around, with a power seat at that...

How do you like the car so far?

Congrats on the sweet car. Change your name but not the seats. :D If you do change the seats wrap the bench up and keep it someplace dry and mouse proof because you are going to need it one day. Good luck with the car.

I love my WH1. Just put the built motor and trans from my wrecked GN in it.

OH PLEASE DON'T DO THAT.

I have to think that a power bench on a WH1 would have to be one RARE MFer.

I understand the bench vers. buckets thing I have had both and I MISS my bech, boy it was comfy.

Just saw this...Right on ScoJack

That would be considered acceptable I suppose.

I'm sure I'm seeming like a ass, but that is not my intention...I just think that this is a neat car and should keep the things that it has going for it that set it apart from the normal turbo regal.

LOL...naw you aren't seeming like an ass or anything. Just letting me know what you think!!

I had no idea that a WH1 with a pwr bench was anything special honestly. I was going to do an interior color change. Is that a bad idea? Does having the orignal color make a difference? If I stick with the bench I need to something because it does have small tears in the fabric. Maybe different color but same pattern?

Congrats to your recent purchase....also for making the trip home uneventful....always a gamble on an old car that you just buy....(I talk from experience).

On your future plans I agree with the above post, you may want to rethink changing the seat layout....that combo although no exact figures exist I can tell you based on what I have seen over the years is very very rare. Someone probably special ordered that and not knowing your age the bench seat format is more comfortable in the long run.. If anything I would try to locate a power seat track for it....also if you go on the thread I have under turbo lounge dennis kirban trunk ID labels (Its always on the first page) post a photo of your trunk ID label minus the VIN number I can break down most of the important codes for you.

What really looks sharp against that paint combo is the GNX style 16 by 8 black mesh wheels...over the hard to clean T rims....again just my opinion.

Good luck with your new ride.....

Member a dozen years ago doing a seat switch was not a big deal....today it is because of the rariety and how these cars are now more recognized and getting restored. Again just my opinion. I am sure others will agree as well.

I have owned several and never had a bench seat WH1 car....

Went for a cruise yesterday and it was very nice to be able to have my wife sit right next to me, that's for sure!

Probably just gonna keep the layout...or if I do decide to change it, I will do so when I have the space to store the original parts.

Do you mean a pwr rack for the passenger side? Drivers is already pwr.

Unfortunately, I broke down yesterday. Ironic. Made it 7 hours with stop and go traffic just fine, but a 20 minute cruise broke it.

Seems to be a charging problem.......sigh

Quick question...When you turn the key on does the volt light light up?? Hopefully it's an easy fix.

Never had a power passenger seat....your car being a bench with a power is very rare as I stated before more so that it is power.

Again get a chance post your trunk ID label under my thread....I will break it down for you the important info so oyu know more about it.

Geez; another 86 WH1 that just up and died due to electrical gremlins...that's creepy! Mine turned up its toes in a very similar manner last weekend. Suspect a fusible link burned out but I have not had the urge to go crawl under it and start checking.

Did you have smoke come out of your alt as well?

Right now I'm trying figure out WHY the alt went. I'm hoping it was just age.
