Hello everyone, I just finished rebuilding my dads 87 t-type. Stroker kit and cam was all bought in Gn1performance. Everything went back together fine. Rebuild oil pump, new timing chain, Everything was done by the book with a good mechanic of mine.

Dad started to do his 500 mile break in. and after about 200 miles, the Oil light flashed and sounded like there was no oil coming up. Dad took it to a shop here in Seattle, and right away they said it needs a engine.

Now I can hear everything moving and no rod sounds and lifters are working.

What do you guys think could have happen.

Oil was primed before engine went into car. everything was great.

I know its hard to say what happened over the internet. But I just feel bad for my dad, he spend all this money and now the shop wants $5k to do a new engine.

Any ideas would be great.

And sorry if i posted this in the wrong area.

Of course they're saying it needs a new engine. Did you ask the good mechanic that was doing everything by the book to check it out???

That's where I would start.

Could be many things, like the oil pickup tube came loose, or debris from machine work hiding in the block somewhere came loose and went through the bearings. Cut open the oil filter and look for debris.

It could be something simple as the front oil gallery plug popping out. Find someone reputable.

Turbofabricator lives in Seattle, if anyone knows what he is doing it is him! Great guy from what I see on the boards here.

Any reputable builders near Ventura, CA / Santa Barbara area?

Thanks guys. Wish I lived closer to more of you. Can't wait to save the cash to get out of Cali... That, or Trump shakes things up back to how it should be!

Im not positive but isnt Spoolfull from around there.

Spoonfull............ Oh shit!.......snicker......... chortle......snort....... watering eyes.........laugh......... GUFFAW!!!!!!!!!!!

You must be confused, my understanding is that this Spoonfull dude you speak of drives a Monte Carlo............

MAK507, Go see Lou Czarnota in Lake Forest........He's a vendor here on the board.

He not only built my car, but Spoonfull's as well.... They both run pretty strong, if I do say so myself......LOL :ROFLMAO:

When the oil light flashed you had less than 4PSI of oil pressure. (yes FOUR psi's)

At this pint you need to look at that 'new' rebuild as one that was driven around with less than 4PSI's.

bonus points if the new engine got a flat tappet cam with tappets that were without hardened feets.

sucks to be the bearer of bad news but in this case, it doesn't sound good.

Send it on a trailer to papa Lou. If that's too far, the only guy I know of near Ventura is Duttwiler.

Did you have the crank machined when you did the rebuild? A lot of times machine shops screw up TR cranks and within a couple hundred miles it takes out the bearings.
