1999 pontiac firebird

hey guys, just bought firebird for my son, v6 model , fuel pump intermittenly whines, if i choose to cut access panel in trunk area is the fuel pump module closer to the back seat or close to t-top compartment? also does anyone know if this model has the plastic module with quick disconnects or is it the rigid steel version? thanks damon
