what would cause a car to shift out of first at only 3400-3600 rpm?
thanks

What's the car? You sure it's hi-performance 200-4R?
Are all the shifts that low or just the 1-2 shift?

My '90 Olds Custom Cruiser shifts at 3600-3800RPM.

You could try checking the Governor if you have the pan off the tranny. If it's always been that way, and it's that way in all the gears, you probably have a low performance tranny or governor.

I am new to these cars, but if the 2004R has a tv cable like the 700R4, then it could be stuck, or adjusted wrong. That would cause it to shift like you were not at wot, and at a lower rpm.

its an 89TTA.

its going back into the tranmission shop next week. it just got rebuilt with kevlar bands, blah blah blah. its built strong.
i am just wondering what will cause the car to shift @3500. every other gear is near 5000. i was just curious as to what everyone else's opinions areabout what the tranny guy will be "adjusting" when it goes in next week.

ive seen this before .sometimes its the wrong shift valve spring installed in the lineup,or a leak at the tvupshift valve causing loss of modulated tv up oil which delays the shift according to throttle angle.
