2-3 and 3-2 need to be tweaked

Hey all,been a while..got my tranny in runs fine, wot shifts are there 1-2 is fine cruising ,but 2-3 criusing is the issue probably shifts about 2-400 rpm later than it should

makes it hard to criuse ,gotta go to fast to get into 3rd, then if i criuse too slow she downshifts back into a high 2nd gear

not sure if this is correct ,but seems when i am coming from highway speeds (no throttle) the downshift is fine

but criusing around or slow stops ,the 3-2 downshift is way too soon

any ideas on how to tweak

tranny has xtreme pump,seperator plate, and fwd and directs set to suggested clearence

any help would be greatly appreciated

oh ya ,forgot to mention

while at the top of 2nd just cruising ,before 3rd will finaly kick in i can feel a periodic drag and release as if something is kicking in and then letting go

hapenes a couple times then will finaly fall into 3rd

you can see the resistance show up on the tach its almost a 200rpm difference

a little heavier foot and is not so bad ,but regular every day driving this is a problem

I am also assuming this symptom may be described as a bind..???

I would try taking some tv cable out, like a click or two. As for the binding, it sounds like clearance may be a little to tight in direct. what's it set at? and who did the trannie?

well i did the work, you may or may not remeber i finanly got it together a few months back

with the help of you and bruce here on this board

the direct clutch pack bruce set up and sent out to me and checked out to just be in by the skin of its teeth on the min suggested (maybe 1-2 thous under min)

the tranny had been modded before my time

only changes were xtreme pump,and modified spacer plate
not sure if maybe the spacer plate isnt mixing well to whatever mods were already done?????

Initially i set it by putting it in towards the firewall and pushing the pedal down,

ended up being to tight,only made the piece stick out apx 3/8"

i then tried just taking up the slack with the cable ,in other words no tension on the cable @closed tb. but the second the pedal would move then cable would ,still a little too harsh, i ended up about 2 more clicks out after that
seems like much moredidnt get me where i wanted so i have left it ,and here is my post, but i will try another two clicks out and repost tomorow



also notice when on accelerator the car shifts from 2-3 under moderate acceleration, instead of winding out, kinda opposite of my original complaint

just throwing this all out there in case it helps

Did you try running the car under the first cable adj. at the max setting, if so what did do?

Hi Mark, If I remeber correctly(didnt drive it but a few shifts) with it in this spot, she really needed to rev up before shifting


well i did try moving out 2 more clicks from current spot(apx 3/8 sticking out)and the 2-3 is a little better i havnt noticed a bind,but rather a shift in place so it is a little better

however i could be nuts but i swear my 2-1 is up there now

3-2 is fine

I would suggest running it for a while and try playing with the tv cable to get it were you like it, as for the bind if there is a bind it should settle in and be fine. Let us know how ya make out after running for a while.
