Whats going on fellas?
my problem is that once my car warms up and is right my trans can run and run hard shifts beautifully but after a nice good take off or as they say; putting the peddle to the metal. and i let off the gas, once i try to gas it again the trans will hesitate to take off unless i play with the gas peddle.
i have a trans cooler, and i watch my fluid levels. could it be my converter and if so what would be the proper stall for it?
it came off of a Cadillac, i bought it used the Cadillac had the 4.6 in front of the trans. please let me know something if you can.

I know the internet buffer makes it difficult to describe problems at times, but from your description it sounds like an engine problem, like a carb accelerator pump or ignition advance problem.

I'm not sure what you mean by the transmission hesitating, as usually that would be exhibited with slippage or even drag in some cases.

Unless you can be more descriptive in your explanation?

When I drive it and I accelerate at first it will respond with a strong launch but if I lift off of the gas peddle and coast, cruise once I try to continue with my acceleration it will struggle for the launch or to continue to the speed that I was in

I had a problem similar to that on my '81 Monte, it was setting on the choke.

I would still check out the carb and ignition thoroughly first before proceeding to more elaborate theories.

I'll check that out and get back, but i do have an edelbrock carb so i may just put the Rochester back on. thank you for the info.

E-carb! Well that may explain alot. Great carbs for bolting on and adjusting the mixture screws and idle, but really only good for looks, idle and part throttle cruising quality.

They seem to be suited for small block chevies though. The AVS is a much better version, but still not as good as a properly set up and tuned Qjet.

I just want to say, what a cool idea. I wonder what an overdrive trans would have felt like on my old '70. Lower gearing I expect to get you out of the hole, and still a nice cruising gear. One day I'll have an old Lark again, and I just might give that a try......
