hi guys, hew here with a tranny issue
i got a max built tranny here and it's killing me.
the tranny is behind a bbo
its got art carr innerds billut servo, so and so on. when i rev the gin in park, the car wants to learch forward, same as in nutral. tried 2 different converters with no change, been up and down with the TV cable, no change. this makes the car unfun to drive, it wont keep idle, it's like the trans pumps up and stalls the gin.

tranny history:
got it out of a 85 442
1 just installed, burned it up
2 had my dads friend build it $400 burned it up
3 had a shop in mn build it with upgraded parts. i sheared the input shaft. $1100
4 bought art carr innereds and stall, another $500

i am so pissed i'm ready to melt the hole f*****en thing.

i got a friend thats having the same issues too. he's got my old converter. is it possible to have 2 defective converters from 2 different shops?

PTC converters work well. There are a lot of great transmission guys on here. These transmissions are very touchy. I'd go with one of the proven 200 guys ie Lonnie, Otto, CK, Dave H. etc. They are all vendors here... Be prepared to drop some $$$$ if you want a 200 that will stand up to some big power. (ask me how I know:rolleyes:) Good luck...

Not a converter problem, it's the forward clutch dragging when it should be fully released, most likely someone has mixed and matched wrong components in forward drum, kinda more of a "builder" fault, not the trans.

Kevin.

I had one do this recently. It was caused by a nicked forward drum sealing ring. Lube circuit was applying the forwards when the engine was above idle.

Either that or you burnt those forward clutches up to a point they have welded themselves together.

thanks guys, i figured it was internal. i guess it comes out for the 5th time:(.
the carb is a 750 holley, and the tv cable was adjusted correct.
does the quad have a different tv throw than the holley? meaning did i have the incorrect tv adjustments by useing the holley?

Yes it's slightly different/shorter. If I remember correctly if you have the cable adjusted for full TV @WOT it will be tight @ PT giving tight shifts.
But that wouldn't hurt it

I have this setup with a Lokar TV cable in my carb'ed (Holley 750DP) LS-1 Maverick. You can get the TV cable adjusted just fine with a Holley and because the "throw" is indeed a bit shorter, adjusting with a gauge is almost a necessity. I found (at least on my trans) that the first and last bits of travel did nothing to affect the pressure, so I have adjusted mine to use the mid section of range...

thanks guys, i have decided to yank it and drop a th350 in there for mean time, what sucks is i dont want to bring it back to the same guy, so now i have to save up bucks to have sombody els do it right:(.

i took it out for a drive today, and now theirs a vibration around 3800rpm and the shift feels slipish:confused:

f-- it i going to melt it down:mad:

If you decide to sell it I might be interested. I'm looking for a 442 core for parts.

who can i send this thing to too freshen it up? it shouldn't need much just fine tuning. pm me with a price
