Hello all. In the past few days I have gotten numerous emails, phone calls, text messages and the big issue is stringent tech at NTR. Im emailing Sean Ryder (BPG Chair) about the issue, about relaxing the roll cage rule due to the following:

1. Most of the turbo cars are street driven, fully licensed and insure street legal , full power optioned scars that are only raced at a few events a year and usually all of them Buick.

2. Cars are now 25 years and older. Harder to find parts as well as the main fact these cars are becoming too collectible, too rare and too nice to cut up into a bracket car with a cage and all that mess. We are talking about Turbo Regals not 73 Dusters!:mad:I wont cut up mine and therefore will never ask another to do it to their car.

3. Our attendance is from primarily the Midwest and East Coast and down South. More people have emailed me saying they would come up and bring their cars as well as tell their friends to bring their turbo cars if rules were relaxed. I am going to give a full court press to relax the rules b/c i feel most people will be putting their car in the show and race as well. no sense in bringing your car hundreds of miles just to put it in a car show. hell its a turbo regal! :eek:Most of the owners i would say like to go to car shows, polish them up bolt on slicks and then run 11s or 10s and go home with the a/c blasting. That is the Buick tradition! Most owners will be doing double duty showing and racing so i want to bend the rules a bit to get car count up and to satisfy most enthusiasts desires that is to have their car in the car show and honored and also to race it as well.

4. Ill be beating down the doors for vendors this coming week. Im going to make a separate post about my ideas for 2011 BPG T party and want you to tell me if you like the direction i am heading in. If im doing something that sucks tell me ill change it! I m not a mind reader so tell me your thoughts, complaints questions and vote. We cant fix it if we dont know about it! Keep it coming!

Bottom line safety is #1! We had more kids, families, and women show up to participate. A few years back a guy in a multi colored big block regal had a heart attack at BG and perished. He was found a while after he passed at the far end of the track. I dont want to see someone with an insufficient tech slam into a guy who has all properly installed safety equipment for the ETs his car is running. Im committed to providing a fun, family oriented and safe event. I am trying the best I can to bring in the car count. But if you have legitimate issues please state them. I will try my best to fix them. Both boards seem to have very positive remarks about the program. Nothing is perfect but we are trying our best! NTR makes the rules. If they bend a little bit thats great if not thats the rules. I dont want to see this event ended b/c of an accident that hurt people caused a major lawsuit and ended the event. Wont happen and I wont be the cause of it!

When we have updates on the safety tech i will post them. Everything will be finalized so people dont drive hundreds of miles to find out their car wont pass tech and out of hundreds of dollars, wear and tear on their tow vehicle, as well as not having any fun and being pissed off! Im here to make this the best bang for the buck and super fun event for all Buick enthusiasts! Its my goal to make this super fun for all Buick enthusiasts and im burning the midnight oil trying to make everyone happy. State your ideas and thoughts and ill consider it! Till then im out for a while, i need a break!

First, let me say that I've never been to the BPG nationals so I refrained from voting on the poll. If you ask me if I ever intend to go, unfortunately, I'd say no.:frown: Why? Mainly because of some the rules which seem too strict. I'm not talking about safety rules here, but rather the class rules, especially for the "TSO", "TSM", "TSL", "TSE", etc, classes. It seems that no matter which way my car is setup, there's always something preventing my car to "fit" in these classes...(well maybe "TSL", but not sure...)
Even if I've spent thousands and thousands of dollars into my car to get the best components money can buy, nothing spared, and all work done by one of the best Buick guys around (Cotton's), when I read the rules, there's always a "detail" on my car which prevents it to run in a given class. I built my street-driven car the way I wanted it to be, not to "fit" in some class in which I would participate only once a year!
I sometimes have the feeling that these classes were made to accomodate a few select big name and also big bucks racers (who are almost the same guys winning year after year) and prevent the small name guys from entering these classes and risk embarassing them by beating them.
All that's left for me is to run the bracket classes which (to me at least) makes this whole trip too expensive and time consuming, just to win a bracket race!

Well, that's it for me. hope you guys understand why I replied this...

Claude.

Hey Claude,

Thanks for your post. Point taken. Honestly, I really cant comment for simple reason of Im not a serious racer (both the cars in my sig are cars have bolt ons to run upper to mid 11s). But I would like to talk with you about the issue and see what I can do. Have you tried talking to the people who run the classes and set the rules for everyone? If its easier for me to contact you let me know, but pm me your number as I would like to solve this problem as best as I can do for you! Or email me at trose231@hotmail.com with your phone number and a time to contact you as I am flexible! Thanks!

You have a point BUT you won't find a better vacation-party with Buick friends & a chance to meet a lot of Really Good people that all have the same interests with cars.
From the time I arrived I felt welcomed by everyone & that alone is worth admission IMO.

these rules are the same for any Buick event...BPG Norwalk Reynolds Bowling Green etc...these events allow these classes to have their point series races. Your points are valid..but it would be almost impossible to create one class which every car fits...

If you don't want to change your car to fit in a class, then bracket race...Or test n tune. There are options other than heads up racing.

Tony, thanks for your reply. I, like you, am not a "serious" racer either, just an occasional weekend racer. I never had an issue with anyone related to the BPG event. It's just that I find the rules for the TSO, TSL, TSM, etc...classes confusing. Some of the rules in each class are too similar except for a few details, so why not point out these differences to make them easier to understand (and see in which class our cars can be eligible to compete) rather than duplicating the whole rules again and again for each class? In my opinion it would be more simple to understand for someone like me who might like to go to these events but are too confused about the rules...
Thanks,

Claude.

Well I guess that you also have a good point there!... I've always had a good time with other fellow Buick racers to whichever event I went!

Claude. :)

It's true that I can always enter the bracket classes...but like I said in my first post, it's quite a ride for me from Canada just to go bracket racing!... :frown:

Actually there are only 3 turbo heads up classes at the bpg.

1. Tsm - 70mm turbo stock block. Any trans, rearend, 3550lbs. That's the basics

2. Ths - 67mm turbo (3x2 cover) stock trans, rearend, block and ac required. Again, that's the basics of that class.

3. Tso - 88mm turbo, stage 2 allowed.

What is your setup? Chances are you'd fit in one of those.

Thanks for explaining...I have a stage II motor, 76mm. turbo which I guess would put me in TSO with guys running 8's... and no handicap...not for me...
What about TSL and TSE ?...

Claude.

Those are not run at the bpg race. Those are only run at the gs nationals I believe.
