204 Camshaft?

has anyone used this camshaft and it didnt go flat on them and i want to know how well it work in terms of performance. i am building a new motor and i am on a budget i know a roller cam is better but i want to use a flat tappet cam right now

204/214 is a great camshaft. Wiping a lobe can happen with any cam- the correct breakin is critical to long cam life.

What are your goals? The stock cam will take you into the 11s with the right tune.....

I run the 204/214 Edelbrock from summit. I love it. Had the stocker, had the postons 107T. This is much better. Smoother idle, quicker response. I like it! Whatever cam you decide to run, use an additive to ensure it is broken in correctly and safely.

i have one in my car with over 25,000 miles on it im guessing with no problems, and my dads new motor has one. They are great cams. I had a local friend install one as well and he has not had any problems. Great idle and performance

Dont throw in 20 oil additives with break in. Just the moly coat with the proper breakin procedure, use a good non-starburst oil, drain it, drain again after 500 miles and stick with non starburst oils after that, with half a bottle of valvoline SYN additive with each oil change. The SYN is much better than EOS. Also check the lifter bore clearance on all the lifter bores. If you have just slightly too much clearance, this can accelerate cam wear cause the lifter cocks and drives the leading edge into the lobe.
All that aside, every 10 degrees added duration will push the powerband up about 300-500rpm. Make sure the heads/intake/turbo/valvesprings are optimized for that added rpm or you will just lose power or gain nothing.

I use a Reed's 204/204 and like it. I only run 1/8 mile strip's (no 1/4's in my area) and do sreet floggings. Low end and mid-range has excellent response.

i run that cam blew a headgasket and pulled heads looked at the lifters and cam THEY ARE PERFECT ABSOLUTELY NO WEAR broke it in with rotella and eos supplement then run rotella after break in. i ran a 12.98 wiht that cam no race gas and street timing and boost
