275/50r15 et street on stock rim

I have a buddy that bought a set of MT ET street radial 275/50r15 and they do not fit his car so he is willing to sell them to me for a steal. I would be throwing them on a stock GN rim with no rear end upgrades... it's all stock. Will it clear and if it won't what do I have to do to make it work.

It will not clear the outer lip. Either rent the Eastwood fender roller and heat it up and fold over the lip and trim, or remove the outer trim and bend the lip up with a hammer. Have a steady hand.....

Won't fit...they hit the wheel lip...tried 'em on my car a long time ago. From a safety standpoint they require a wider rim. Check Mickey Thompsons site for correct rim width.

255 60 15s fit on my stock wheels, my car is slightly lowered so if you're at a stock ride height you'll be even better off. if you ever want to test fit a tire size you can call your local discount tire and you can try different sizes out before you buy them.. the only issue is they don't stock too many sizes in 15" wheels because they're becoming obsolete now , in comparison to the newer cars

Yes, a 255/60/15 will fit with the stock rim. You can also run a 275/60/15 as well on the stock rim.

Guys I hear ya and I'm sure you are correct on your car(s) but I have ran 275/50/15's DR's on stock rims with no problems. It was very very close inner and outer lip but worked just fine. Every car is a little different. GL

Just a warning it might fit but if you don’t have airbag and put any kinda weight in the back or launch hard it will eat up your tires . I found out the hard way with a set of brand new MT drag radial :-(

Yep I have/had airbags installed and no one ever rides in the back seat. lol

I haven't ran them in ages as I'm on 17's now but have no problems running them if I were on on stock rims.

Careful how wide of a tire you can put on a stock GN rim. Yes a 275/50/15 will fit. But that bulge on the sidewall is worse then a fat chick in spandex... That's not the intended size rim for that tire. It needs to be on a 10" rim for a proper contact patch, without the bulging sidewall.

I'm in the same dilemma. I was about to purchase a 275/50-15 for a new set of 15x8's (rear) with a 4.5" backspacing. I have airbags too.
Can any of you experts tell me if this will fit? I also have Energy Suspension body bushings so it's not sagging in that regard.
I just noticed my previous M/T ET Drags were 275/60-15's, but those are 28" tall therefore changing my gear ratio. This time I was going to try 26".

Any advice is welcomed. I'm actually planning to push the "purchase" button tomorrow (Wed, Jan 17).

They have fit on my car before exact same size. Some cars are a little different though u may or may not need a small spacer to keep from rubbing on the inside.

The 255/60/15 fits perfect on a stock gn and stock wheel.do yourself a big favor and dont get the 275/50/15.

Not only that but they will rub around turns.some of us have tried the fat chick in spandex

Timely bump.
I just order a set of 275/50/15 MT's and they are now available for "No wait" at Discount tire in Stafford. After seeing this thread, I told them I will not be mounting them since I am in no way interested in dealing with fitment issues on a TType/rim. Like many of you, my buddy runs 275/50/15's on stock GN wheels, no airbags, no issues. And he does carry people on the back seat.

Now, according to the Discount Tire DB as of Jan 17, 2018;
275/50/15 SHOULD fit on a GN rim, but NOT on a TType. (It appears that the wheels between GN and TType rims is different enough?)
Interestingly, the DB also indicates that the 255/60/15 MT's will NOT fit on a TType. This appears to be incorrect as many of you have done this successfully, so I am confused.
Still searching for 255/60/15's on a TTYpe rim on this forum . . . . . . Unless someone can confirm.

As indicated, I'm now going with an 8" rim with a 4.5" backspace, not the stock 7" GN wheel with a 4" backspace to get away with running the 275/50/15 (26" tall). I was hopeful that by adding the wider wheel and accounting for the change in backspacing it would work. However, my car has always been quirky with fitment issues on virtually everything so I'm not depending on it offering any forgiveness regarding a wider tire.
I have in the past run a 275/60/15 (28" tall) so it looks like I'll stick with that. I just hate sacrificing some of the gear by adding 2" to the tire height, as well as messing up the speedometer accuracy.

Not an 86 but here is my car with 255/60-15 street tire on the rear. Were on there for a LONG time. But the tread separated so they got replaced.

I ran 275/50/15 BFG Drag radials on T wheels for years. I ran the thin spacers that are on IROC Z rears because they rubbed the frame on turns.

Don't run them on a 7" rim. They bulge and won't wear correctly. The bulge will scrape and the tire will get ruined. Go with the 255s. They are 27" so they are good alternative to 275/60s.
