Plenty of better choices for a converter than 30yr old tech of the art carr unit. Ptc and Dave H are two at the top of my list. The name "Art Carr" can refer to two different products.
For the older folks, an Art Carr was just that.
Bottom line: An AC converter may not be the gennie article.
Try and find someone on here that did more than I did with Arts convertor and stock junk. Check the sigs on here. My MPH was higher than most. Arts convertor coupled better than theirs.Plenty of better choices for a converter than 30yr old tech of the art carr unit. Ptc and Dave H are two at the top of my list.
Ways of measuring stall vary. Widely! Some companies rate theirs behind a 4.3 v-6 N/A chevy. That's to isolate stall from boost. A smaller turbo, higher compression engine will build more boost and therefore more stall. That may not be relevant to your combo. Today, time permitting, is brain picking day. How does your company rate the stall of your turbo convertors? No answer will equal no purchase. You only raced it. Driving it on a drag n drive event is much different than weekend racing and a few trips out for a cruise and a burger.Try and find someone on here that did more than I did with Arts convertor and stock junk. The one I have is from Art I got it from California Performance Transmission in 2012.The name "Art Carr" can refer to two different products.
For the older folks, an Art Carr was just that. Made by Art.
Later versions were made by someone that acquired his business.
Texas comes to mind. AIRC, it was a nasty deal for Art.
This is in a general description, as it was many yrs ago that this was discussed.
I've not used Art's stuff for many yrs. I used his Torq flite in my Hemi Mope.
Last I talked with Art, I was asking about his "typewriter drive" T'flite shifter.
He made only a few and had no more parts. Still have the magazine it was in.

Wrong. I drove it on the street plenty before I stritctly raced it. It was 'tight' on Erics default settings and drove like a stocker. Tuning ability like I have alters the way a convertor reacts. You only raced it. Driving it on a drag n drive event is much different than weekend racing and a few trips out for a cruise and a burger.
I had one of his converters(same one you had) in my daily back in the late eighties and it would spool in a hurry. Great on the street but I wouldn't say it was a great hwy converter .
Very true. With a 30 percent exchange rate up here and crazy shipping rates the money wasn't there to try the new stuff out. I made do with nothing. Arts convertor ran me 200 bucks from my engine builder up here. Say what you want but my numbers don't lie...and I did it every weekend...not just a one off shot.Right
See I understand exactly what your saying.
But how fast would you have gone on the newer teck?
That's really what it's about.
There are going to be fast guys and the rest of guys.
The fast guys will go faster with the better stuff.
That's just the nature.
We ran ac with stalls 3500+ back in the day on stock stuffVery true. With a 30 percent exchange rate up here and crazy shipping rates the money wasn't there to try the new stuff out.
