4.1 in a TTA, what head bolts? What other issues?

Anybody have a 4.1 in their TTA? I'm curious where to get head bolts for a 4.1 with TTA heads on it? Do you guys just custom mix and match to get them?


Also, what other issues will we run into? Is there a difference in oil pans on a TTA?

I just placed an rjc deep sump oil pan on my tta with a 3.8 block with factory k member. Not sure if that helps you as I am not sure if 4.1 and 3.8 blocks are the same, but mine fit.

OK how about the oil pan? Do TTA's have different oil pans?

Tta uses a 20 bolt and a 4.1 uses a 14 bolt. I have had my tta pan and gn pans side by side and they looked the same to me, i would use a 84-85 turbo pan with baffle on your 4.1 unless you want to go the rjc pan route.

You use the same head bolts as a 3.8L. Check the depth of the threads on the 4.1 block as sometimes the bolts have to be shortened. The engine will go right in no problems. Call ARP 1-800-826-3045 and ask for Ron F. He is very familar with the setup. He helps me with all my custom sets and is very knowledgable. The bolt sizes you need are as follows

You need 7/16-14 bolts...
8 @ 2.375"
4 @ 3.500"
4 @ 4.500"

You will needs a 14 bolt oil pan with baffle and a timing cover for a 14 bolt block. Aftermarket timing covers usually have the correct holes drilled for both 14 and 20 bolt pans. Call if you need anymore info

Thanks for the info guys! I've built a few 4.1's and am familiar with their builds. i just didnt know if the TTA pans were notched or not. I'll see what we plan to do with this and get ahold of ARP. I appreciate the advice!!!
