Issue:
4" MAF and filter pop off after a small 10-12lb boost pass. I wasnt on it for long, but right after getting off the gas the whole MAF and filter altogether looked like it popped off from the pipe itself. There was no clamp on it.

Question:
Are you guys just using some hairspray and normal 4" hose clamp to keep things together?

Yesterday was a day of headaches for sure. First absolutely beautiful day in Chicago but did'nt get to do any joy riding. After dealing with FMIC hoses coming disconnected in the morning while driving and me nursing the car home to crawl under and find the issue. Then later thinking all is well but the MAF comes off. Oh, well. I guess this is the best way for me to learn about how to fix my own car. So, it wasn't all a waste. Special thanks to Prasad for pointing me in the right direction.

Thanks in advance,
Neil

No clamp?????? Hair spray????? c'mon, don't try and overengineer a very simple solution. Just get a proper clamp.

Give me a little grace, I'm learning here. I just bought the car and am working out the bugs. Ive read some folks use a little hairspray on the pipes and a clamp to help keep things together.

no need for hairspray on the MAF hoses, there is no real pressure there. There is a fair amount of backflow when you drop the throttle, so a regular clamp is required.

Its good that you are learning the details on the car, turbo cars in general need more attention than the normally aspirated stuff. You should locate the wastegate hoses and make sure they are all secured with tiewraps and not old and cracked. If a wastegate hose fails you can break things.

And if you ever hear spark-knock (detonation) lift your foot and figure out why, as detonation is an engine killer.

Congrats on the new ride.

No problem Neil, that's how we all learn and sometimes we make mistakes then we learn from that too. There is no one that's going to take care of your own car the way you do. I leaned this the hard way. All the shops care is; to get you in and out as soon as possible and I was getting tired of half ass jobs and getting ripped off so I decided to work on these cars on my own. As a profession, I am an Accountant and I never took a course in Auto mechanics. I learned by working on these awesome cars. Anyway my point is if I can learn then anyone can. Now days you can find anything on the internet besides we are all here to help you.

If it's pulling apart, it might be bad engine mounts pulling the intake apart. As stated earlier, there is no pressure on that side of the system. Try and figure out WHY its falling apart.

Poly motor mounts both sides. It was lacking clamps. I put a 5" worm clamp on the MAF side until I can find or order a 5" t-bolt clamp and a 3" t-bolt clamp on the MAF to filter side. Hopefully that is the fix.

This came from a half throttle 10-12lb burst from a PT6776. Wasn't on it for long. There has to be some sort of "back pressure" through the MAF side after a half throttle let off. I don't know. Learning as I go. I'm all clamped up and ready to test it again. By the way that little burst was the most I have been on it and this is by far the fastest car I have ever owned. Cant wait to get to get all the bugs worked out and take my wife for a spin. :)

Not sure whats causing your issue. I've never had a intake side of a turbo come apart except durng a HUGE back-fire due to detonation. Even with custom tubing with no bead rolls and screw clamps they all have held. Interesting............Good luck.

You shouldn't need anymore than the worm clamps for any of the pre turbo plumbing. T-bolt clamps on the MAF would be way overkill. t-bolt clamps are good for anything post turbo though.
