A friend of mine and I installed the 4" Mufflex cat-back Saturday night. Being a glutton for punishment, I did not use a lift. Surprisingly, everything went well.
A few nights before I sprayed the system with 3M Weld Thru Primer. Stuff works awesome and should last a LONG time. I did spray both ends of the Magnaflow 4" stainless steel muffler up to the welds... the muffler is stainless steel but both ends are not so...
I was so surprised the system so hung well. Don't get me wrong, it's tight all over but fits GREAT! There is about 7-8" of clearance from lowest part of my intermediate pipe to the ground. We took our time and everything looked too cool.
Next, I wanted to run a few tests. Amazingly, the Hooker 3" cat back weighed more than my new 4" badasss system. Hooker cat back weighed 48 lbs to 35lbs for the Mufflex cat back! Reason being.. the Hooker has dual tail pipes and of course dual tips to the one LARGE outlet of the Magnaflow. But the main reason is that the Hooker muff is much heavier than the stainless Magnaflow straight through muffler.
Now we had to start his animal. First impressions were... wow, it's not too loud at idle. Has a low deep tone.
Next morning, I took the TTA to hear the WOT blasts. Again, not too loud. Much quieter for sure than opening the dump. I can still hear the motor really well compared to the opened dump. I guess having a turbo does quiet the noise.. the 6262 is a quiet turbo.. along with 4" straight through muff.
Loud to me might be different from others. Some might say "he's nutz" it's has to be really loud because of the straight through 4" design. Really... it's NOT!
One last thing, it felt like 30 HP was added. Spool-up, throttle response and power were immediately noticed. My test pipe is now 3" instead of 2.5", increased the cat back 1" and went to a straight through muff. Also noting that I added a 3" up pipe.
IMO.. Mufflex system is super. Twice as $$$ as the Hooker.. but 5X's better. I will post more pix later due to needing better lighting. Here is some shots taken with my cell phone... will post better pix later in the week.
