Who makes a 4" downpipe for our cars and I saw a 5" setup somewhere but havn't been able to find it again. Does anyone know who makes them??? I'm using a pt-88 turbo.

I'm using a pt-88 turbo:eek: you will have to take the car to have a DP fabbed up. you will need that 5" DP because i want a 4" for my little 70. Jack Cotton is a good place to start..........hth Bob

I agree. My buddy Dave, when he was running a PT88 turbo on his TSO car, had to have his downpipe custom fabricated as well. These pipes have always been a custom fabricated job, as no one has ever made a mass produced 4" or 5" pipe for a PT88 T4 housing with 4 1/4" v-band, that would work on a Turbo Buick.
Excellent suggestion about Cottons. Jack and his crew do great work.

I saw that... But it's like $440 just for the flange and elbo. Thats a nice peice but I'm not looking to build a $1000 downpipe.

This may be a bit off topic, but does anyone here remember or still use the fenderwell dump, the piece that was welded to the factory elbow?

If the rules dont require an exhaust i would run a fender dump but i drive on the street too much. Could be a cheap solution and a big savings of weight not running an exhaust system if it was a race only car.

Yeah, I didn't think of the weight savings, The ones I saw back in the day where attached to the stock downpipe still on, they would just uncap a flange welded to the stock elbow and put the fender dump extention on to the elbow. Back in 91-94 at the Bowling Green event I seem to remember quite a few people doing this. A company called 0 to 60 performance had already made pieces in their catalogue. Alot of people ran them on the street too. If you could locate a spare fender part it would be cool in case you wanted to go back to stock. My buddy has a GN and I think he's going to do this instead of a bigger downpipe. It's gotta flow like crazy, can't be hardly any back pressure at all with that kinda set up. If I had a GN I'd do it instead of a pricey downpipe.

Fender dump pipe

Both the cars I've owned had that setup at one time or another. The car we have now has sheet metal riveted over the dumppipe exit hole on the plastic inner fenderwell. Infact just recently threw the dump pipe away when cleaning out the shed, thought I'd never use that archaic dp again, man I'd have given it to ya!. They had taken the stock elbow and modified it, ours was wrapped with header insulation wrap. Car spooled like a banshee on meth. Used to drive it on the street you couldn't hear yourself think. The only problem with them from what some of the Buick guys experienced and used to say is they burned up/cooked the turbo bearings. Buy a cheaper turbo flange/ or old elbow with puck modify it and make your own 4" dump-pipe.

They are crazy loud............. You are right in that the dump pipe came straight out off the elbow and out the hole in the fenderwell and sat right above front tire, when not in use you could unbolt the 3 bolts(like a 3bolt header flange) and block it off with the plate, I used a header gasket between the block off plate and header flange. Seen acouple of really nice setups(Roc87's GNX clone) where instead of coming out the fender they used the 3 or 3.5"(forgot which THDP he has) test pipe with cutout and utilized the electric motorized cutout so with the flick of a swiitch a immediate dump-pipe. If I remember the dump came out right behind the front tire but not obvious. Very trick and stealthy Roc did a nice job on it! What's nice about that system no jacking with bolting and unbolting the cover plate. And if you did happen to be using it on the street and the Police think your loud or someone is you flip the switch and your running back thru your mufflers within seconds and they know it couldn't be you!
