Curious as to the gains/losses from going from .63 presision exh. to .85 presision exh. on a 45-a/q-trim turbo? I need to pull my turbo off to replace flange gasket. So now would be the time to upgrade. I have a 9 inch a/c non lock conv. 34-3500 stall. Thanks for any Input. Bob.

I am guessing, but I would expect a 20-30HP gain on the top end, with a little extra lag. If you have a good converter, it may help, especialy if you run high boost. I would say 2-3 tenths, max gain. It may also lower the EGT because the turbo will be a little more efficient, less pressure/heat to get the same boost. May also raise the max boost a little.

I like the larger housing on my TE-61, went from 11.4 to 11.1 in the quarter. Same boost! I have reached the limits of my combo with a TE-61 (30lbs boost), I should have bought a 45, or bigger. I didn't know! My converter is up to the task.

I'm looking to do the same thing with my 45. I got the .85 housing sitting in the garage waiting on spring ( too cold to be removing turbos). Told by Precision to expect about 20hp.

Turbo2nr,
If I gain what you got, I'd be happy. :)

I also wanted to slowdown the violent rush of torque just off the line. With the smaller housing and my relativly loose converter, I would launch at around 5psi, and blow the tires about 10ft from the line. Now I can leave at 10psi, and the spoolup matches the traction I have. 60' dropped from 1.64 to 1.51. That was a portion of my gain in ET. I also saw 2 1/2 mph gain from switching housings. I thought is was $100 well spent. I was able to squeeze the housing on, without removing my turbo. I left the compressor inlet, and the oil lines on. Quick to change, evenn at the track. Try a run, then swap. Don't forget to add some anti-seize to the turbine housing boltz. While the housing is new, and clean. Take the time to coat the housing. I like "Thermal tech", in Hopewell,VA. They have a high temp coating called turboX. Also have a silver, shiney coating, but a little less heat resistant.

TE45 a P or Q

What is the most popular turbine wheel that is being used on a 10 sec application with 3400-3500 stall. .63 or .85 housing.

I have a 45a on my car right now with a .63. Im switching over to the .85 housing for next year. I will let you know what kind of gains I get out of it next time to the track. I would be happy with 20hp and or .2 tenths.
