I see so many guys needing the strength of the TH400 but hate to give up the overdrive of the 2004R, myself included. Have any of you guys ever considered using a 4L80E with the stand-alone computer? After all the 4L80E is basically a TH400 with OD. I could see where the initial cost would be high, but you would be better off in the long run. If I had done this years ago, I would be money ahead. ;)

Yep.
**They** say the 80E consumes alot of HP in it's operation thou.

My 91 BBC truck has one, and with some tweaking of the chip, I've got it to where, it's really a sweet shifting tranny.

While you can spend a bunch of money for an aftermarket TCM, or you can be creative, and use an oem one, and save alot of money.

If your interested in the DIY route do a search here, for more info.

eats more than the 400 because of the odrive carrier being used to drive the forward drum in the forward ranges.get an aod.

Anyone make an adapter for the BOP bolt pattern? I might give up a few horses (sacrilege, I know!) for a dependable OD tranny that was relatively cheap and easy to find.

What about the Ford AOD that's been talked up here on the forum the last few months? Sounds to me like they are virtually indestructible.

There is a shift kit available that removes all computer controls and makes it a manual valvbody. So you dont have to have the computer control if you dont want it. Just some info if anyone cares.

Apparently not. Anyone else?
i once bought a kit from them that let me put a 700r4 behind a 455 buick motor in my 69 skylark. it was a adpter plate for the bell housing. and a spacer for the nose of the converter to fit into the back of the crank. i think this should work on a 4l80e to get it bolted to the motor. 700r4 and 4l80e are the same chevy. bell housing's.

Thanks, I'll call 'em. Maybe it was listed under the TH400 stuff and that's why I couldn't find it online.

I ordered (from Jakes) a stage 3 4l80e and optishift standalone, along with triple disc billet 3400 stall. Should be fun!
