I just bought an engine its a 78 turbo and I plan on putting in my 1980 Triumph TR7.There is a kit to put a 3.8 in it also says a turbo 4v will fit.I plan on using a t5 or t50 5speed anyone know of someone who put a stick on thier turbo?Plan on using bellhousing from a 76-80 Skyhawk or other gm of same body style. It has a cable operated clutch and is what the kit calls for.

I guess I will have the very first stick shift turbo wow. What trans is better t5 or t50.Anybody have any pros or cons on this setup?
Push clutch in push on gas spool up pop clutch bang gears go like
hell thats the plan.

The only stick car I know of is a corvette owned by antong on the gnttype list with a stage II motor and manual trans that he road races. Most of us are drag race oriented and it's easier to launch and shift consistently with an auto so that's what we all run. Besides, GM did such a great job on the gear ratios that it is hard to improve on that.

Push clutch in push on gas spool up pop clutch bang gears go like hell thats the plan.

The problem with your plan is that you won't get any spoolup this way for the launch. You will need some kind of ignition retard box or two-step box to build boost, and that's not very streetable in my opinion, which is why we favor the autos. A blow off valve will let you keep spoolup on shifts pretty well, though, so once you are moving you can do okay.

[By streetable I mean always ready to go without having to do anything like arm it or turn it on or whatever, so it's always going to be ready in an impromptu situation.]

I guess I need to learn more about turbo's my car only weighs 2500 + 85 for difference in motor weight.I could get a good launch without the tubo.Would the turbo ever kick in?Is it useless in a stick?I don't really think a sportscar should be auto but I guess it would make the project easier. It might improve resale value too not sure.Mabee I should try and find a 700r4.They have a adapter available. The guy I bought the motor from said the boneyard might still have the original trans for the 1978 regal the motor came out of.The car had a catalatic converter fire that toasted the interior.Im going to try and contact him and find the name of the yard.Ive been reading more in this forum and this may be the way to go.Did the 200r4 come in this car?The rear end in my car is a 390.The tr was available with a 3.5 liter v8 and this rearend held up fine. Will keep the motor stock with small refinements.
