ok is this figure possible to get on a stock block
stock from what I mean is
stock bottom end

also I want to know if it can be done without race gas
alky is allowed however

if anyone has done this
please give me your ideas or combo if you dont mind

I am aiming for something in this range for the future

thanks

Carl

It might be possible with the race gas and a girdled block. But without race gas that kind of power would be stage 2 territory.

ive always heard the limit for the stock block is around 600 HP and thats w/o a girdle. what kind of ET would a 550 hp car put down assuming its an averagely modded TR, not a gutted race car w/th-400, 9" rearend, etc.?

Why would you spend all that $ to make 550hp and skimp on fuel? Sometimes I'm still astounded.....

Have you ever driven a 550hp car? Do you have any idea how fast that is, and how easily it will BLOW THE TIRES AWAY at almost any speed (I've been in my friends car and he blows em away at 60+...275/50's!)

If you want 550hp on the street everyday, I personally think you're nuts. If you want it for that high 10 sec pass, put race gas in it for that, and turn the boost down on the street.

But we know what opinions are like.... and I've been told I'm one of the biggest ones...so take it for what its worth :)

I agree with jim.I can't even drive on radials on the street.PERIOD.Half throttle is like driving on ice.I don't think I make 500+ hp.I'm talking low (17#) boost and 93 octane.Just imagine what its like at higher boost.Even the ET streets blow off, just not as bad.Start small,if you don't know what it takes to make that kind of power you aren't ready for it.Learn to tune and get the most from what you have and add to it progressively.I'm even more nuts because I haven't even installed a posi yet.My car runs mid to high 7s in the 1/8 with stupid 1.90-2.10 60' times.

Geez, hearing all your stories guys about how you spin your tires so easily, and even ET streets makes me think I am the only Buick owner having traction with any kind of tires.

Maybe my cars are special or something  Ok heres the facts : I have the basic combo

Stock 3.8 block, steel main caps, heavy port & polish heads, 1.65 roller rockers, Kenne Bell intake port & polish, Kenne Bell Dog House and throttle body 70mm, ATR Stainless Headers, ATR Delta Gate, ATR 3 inch Downpipe, ATR 3 inch single shot, Turbo TE61, Duttweiler Front Mount Intercooler, NOS N-tercooler , 009 42.5 Injectors, ajustable fuel pressure regulator, Bosch High performance fuel pump with in-line fuel pump

Hotchkiss race suspension upper and lower, 90/10 front 50/50 back, ATR big sway bar, pinion snuber, air bag, Strange axel, 9 inchs Art Carr 3500-3800 stall converter, Art-Carr transmission Super heavy duty build, stock 3.42,stock 215/65/15 front, BF Drag Radials 275/50/15 back

Last year I was still running on stock 215/65/15 in the back  Ok now this is not a joke this is for real, I was able to brake boost 3-4psi with NO spin at all  Now with the BF Drag Radials 275/50/15 I can brake boost 7-8psi in the street with no burnout at all with no SPIN at all. Again this is for real I am not joking :D So easily at the track I could launch with 10psi with a good burnout. ;)

Again, maybe its just me having the perfect suspension combination or something. Anyway I'm very very satisfied with the way this car his running. ;) I'm now on the intense moding process for the other T.

Thats whats fun about the GN. I get in it after being used to putt-putting around in the daily 4-cyl, sometimes completely forgetting what I have under my right foot. I usually end up fishtailing from a turning lane, or sideways out of my development. It just.. turns me on. :D

ok well maybe I am nuts and as the saying goes, there is someone always faster
I agree that what I am asking for is a bit rediculous, however since everything was based on opinion I wont take it to heart

I realize what you guys are saying, about how powerful that is etc
however from my point of view, that is where I would like to build the car at this point, no I never drove a 500hp car, Ive been in a low 11s gn and a porsche TT, although these dont compare
I know you guys are probably looking out for my best interest
but I want to be fast
not just from a stop but I want to be able to atleast take some decent cars from a roll as well

to TurboJim

I know what you are trying to say and I respect that, however in my opinion what good is it that you can run a 10 at the track with race prep and gas and ****, but you wont be able to back that on the street

I realize at this point I can take alot of cars from a stop, but thats only good if your at a track, or light, and how often is that compared to moving next to on the highway and such
you see what Im saying?

take this for instance
when I was at the track a Gn there ran a 12.7@106mph
I know a kid with a turbo integra that an a 13.5@111
now
the GN had the better time, but had they met on the highway the integra would take him
you see what I am getting at?
this is where I figure the extra horsepower will come in, our ETs are great cause of the torque we launch with
well if we had the 500hp or so we would trap alot higher as well and be just as fast from a roll as a stop

I dunno maybe its just a silly idea
I know the car is built for dragging, but dragging isnt the only races you can get into in the real world, atleast thats how I see it and thats my opinion

Carl

also would anyone be able to tell me some kind of build up to get some high ass horsepower as well?

Dude.. you shouldnt have that much of a problem. If I'm rolling along in the GN at about 45-50 mph, and I suddenly stomp the gas, it downshifts and spools up in an instant, and I'm gone.

The only cars you would have to fear leaving you quicker are big-blocks with a good amount of hp that have more instant throttle responce. You just need to throw the first punch. Meaning: know when someone next to you wants to run ya, and hit the gas before they do! Then its on.

At a cruise, mine takes about a sec to downshift and spool and I'm pulling like hell. If you want even quicker responce, go with an under-drive pulley system. They're really not all that great for every day street driving though. That's if you drive it daily.

well since my injectors are maxed and they are stock at 26lbs
they support 312hp
so I can say yes I have drivin on it but with over 300

Carl

(Flame suit on. This is not me, but "a friend". Don't believe me if you want... it wouldn't be the first time I have been accused of lying when I'm not.)

Stock block, heads, etc... just bolt ons:

50# injectors
340 hotwired
TE64 @ 26psi
70mm TB
T+ w/21* Extender

Tranny by PTS (Sacramento) with a 9/11 ((Extreme) L/U converter.

With the converter locked on a Dynojet:
453 RWHP @ ~4800 RPMs
595 RWTQ @ ~3200 RPMs

This was running rich and a 50/50 mix of 92/C16 (as I recall). Figuring a 15% parasitic drivetrain loss, that's ~520/680. At the track with 100 Unleaded (again, as I recall) he ran 11.51 @ 118+ in a full weight GN with 27" stickies (though only ~5-7psi / 1.60/60's launches. There was more in it according to the O2 readings and absent KR, but he didn't have his laptop with him and was relying on just SM info after the run. Tuning is the key, avoiding KR (particularly at higher boost levels).

In his opinion, ~500 HP is just fine for a trip around town, or wherever. I would agree with that, as I'm ~50HP/100TQ behind him and could certainly take more, but as noted above you've gotta be careful. Nitto DRs are our street tires.

DEAN

thank you very much

this was exactly what I had been looking for
someone with first hand experience with it and had dyno #s as well

thank you so much
by the way I use nitto drag radials too

I think power is certainly safe as long as you have control
I dont plan on flooring the car everywhere I go, besides most of my time I dont even let the turbo spool on a regular basisi, so since thats where the power would be made, I would be ok to drive it

Carl

I will describe my combo and you can make up your own mind if it is where you want to go. 87 T Type stock= block, bore, pistons, rods, and 206 cam. ATR Double Pumper, ATR Headers, ATR
Liquid Intercooler, Ported and Polished Iron Heads, 72 lbs injectors, 70mm TLB, 70 turbo P Trim A/R .69, DFI.Stock Rearend and a Art Carr 3800 stall non lock up converter.

18 lbs of boost with 92 octane the car put 390 hp to the rear wheels on the dyno.

21 lbs of boost with C-116 the car ran 11.23 123 mph.
