hello everyone, my question is how have you guys been running this turbo since its been out for a while now as far as set up go,s in the Buick 3 bolt housing & what size down pipes are you guys using with this turbo?? 3in or 3.5 . I'm trying to find out what works well for this turbo. Thanks guys

The 6870 seems to build quite a bit of backpressure relative to boost.

Rob went 8s with this turbo, it is rated at 1100HP.

How much power are you expecting to make?

That was coasting from the 1000ft, the intercooler pipe blew off the turbo.
Fantastic Rob!!! What was your et and mph at the 1/8? Did you get a chance to dyno this setup? Just curious if the numbers reflect the other numbers noted from the other guy with a 4.1, if I remember that thread correctly the power tapered off as the boost increased passed a certain level.

The dyno numbers were no good, but the tune was dead on from the old 4276 billet wheel turbo up to 32psi, which is where we stopped with both. It takes more co2 to make the boost so backpressure is higher. The 1/8 mile was 5.68@123.x. First pass on 24psi was 9.13@149 5.85@120 1/8. I have a 3.73 gear, so it is running out of rpm. Going to switch back to a 3.42 or even higher. The conditions were 80° and super himid, so some good air in the fall might help. This was a 1.26 60', 6psi off the foot brake. 275 MT Radial Pros. 100% tsm legal at close to 3500lbs.

So this turbo makes more back pressure then your older turbo?

My combo is 4.1 stock stroke ported irons n ported intake precision fm inner cooler n plenum 80s n alky . 215/220 hyd rllr cam 1.65 rockers . 3 in down pipe atr exhst. TT 6.1 chip . Fastest I've run is 10.50 at 131mph. 1.6 60ft. . I want to run 9.50 off the foot brake with a 5-7 lb launch. What should I do .and that 10.50 was at 28 lbs boost with 29 in tire 3.42 gear . A/F 10.8 . Trans 200r4 18 blade ptc nl . I'm still waiting on gn1s to come . The people that sells me parts don't race for real or has a fast car . So good advice is appreciated . Thanks everyone.

Go with a 6766 with a .85 turbine housing instead. It'll run lower on backpressure. Might have to tighten up that 18 blade a bit too.

start turning it up if you want more power.whats the weight of the car?cant see that turbo doing too much at that boost level unless you have a very good engine and every restriction taken out of the combo.

What is the car weight, shift point, valve springs used? The back pressure debate needs to be put to rest. The power you are making isnt having a back pressure issue.

And what turbo did you run 10.50 with?
62mm and 64mm have been in the 9's pushed in a light car.

I sold my 6766cea to buy a 71hpq but couldn't find one . So I bought this 6870 . I loved that 6766 I just wanted to make more power/ go quicker .

A bigger turbo isnt going to make more power unless the old turbo was maxxed out. You were far from pushing the 6766. The 7168 would have just spooled slower. I went 9s with an old te63 p trim with iron heads and a 210/215 cam. The car ran 132mph on 26psi.

I just switched from ATR headers with wastegate plumbed back into downpipe to TA headers with wastegate dumping to atmosphere, but using the same 68/70 turbo.

I was using 45 pounds of C02 on top of a nine pound spring to make 30 pounds of boost with the ATR setup

At the TB.com race I was 1:1 boost to C02 with the new setup.

I'm not sure which one helped the most, the ATR headers did have some leaks.

I started at 20 and worked up to 28 and it still stayed at 1:1.

Went 5.77@122 on 28.
