As anyone ever put a 6spd in with the 109 block? I ve seen a few with the lsx but not with the 3.8. What do you need to do this?
 
You will need an trans controller. Don't know about bell housing. I been thinking about it myself.
 
The 4l80 convertion is pretty pricey I can't imagine the cost of the 6 speed. TCI I think has info on conversions.
 
I was actually wondering the same thing. I am planning an LQ4 and a T56 swap and was wondering if there was any fitment issues with the T56 in the tunnel. Anyone have an idea?

Theyre referring to automatics, im sure the t56 has been done, try checking on a monte ss forum for ls/t56 swap info, theyre a lot more common on those cars
 
Well the 6 speed I installed was from TCI, its a modified 4l80e called the 6x. You need an electric speedo, new crossmember, and a new driveshaft. The gforce crossmember doesn't work with a turbo car without alot of work. With the TCI it was much cheaper to get a chevy bellhousing than the bpo and use an adapter plate, if your pulling a used 4l80e this is probably the way you will need to go. If you use the plate you need a slightly bigger converter to compensate for the 3/16 difference. It fits easy in the stock tunnel.

The wiring is... interesting. You need reference voltage, tps, vss etc. If your using the easy tcu from tci it works well and the programing options are great. Wiring instructions were bad and the paddle shifters are underwhelming, tech support is great though.

All and all, the TCI conversion costs 8-9k depending on what options you go with

The justification is from going from a 4 speed to a 6 speed. Its also about as beefed up as you can make one of these, it has a lifetime warranty upto 850 hp and have more than a few guys way over that. It also comes with the ez-tcu to control it, shift points, converter slip, firmness, etc are all adjustable

Jake builds a full manual 4L80 for around $2200 without a core, if you don't mind shifting. The EZ-TCU adds $600 (sale price)...
 
when i think "6 speed", i don't think of some boring automatic- and in the end it 's still just a boring automatic no matter how many flappy paddles or shift buttons you stick on the steering wheel or how fast it shifts. i think of something with an H pattern shifter poking thru the floor and an extra pedal on the floor...

assuming that's what the OP was asking about- it's been asked, and i think even done... but the consensus is that it didn't work out too well 20 years ago before people knew how to use a turbo with a manual trans, so it is considered something that you aren't supposed to do...

For a manual trans he'll need a BOV also!!! :rolleyes:
 
I like the idea of the 6-speed, but the 8k+ scared me off. I don't mind shifting, just don't know if I would want to do it on a continuous basis?
 
Wouldn't it be cheaper to go 400 and a GearVendor which would split each gear effectively giving you 6 speeds right? I guess you would still need a controller for the GearVendor unit though. But those 400's are proven and so is the GearVendor units.

Has GearVendor come out with a REAL OD?

20% isn't worth the hassle! All original ODs in new vehicles I've been able to measure are over 33%.

Years ago I considered an in the drive-shaft (u-joint on each end) after market unit with 52%, however, I've been unable to find it now. I figure at 52%, you'd have to down-shift the tranny whenever going into OD.
